Job description

Requirements :

  • MBChB degree with research experience
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
  • Good management skills
  • Computing skills appropriate for medical research
  • Verbal, written and reading fluency in English
  • Excellent Organisational and logistical skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a dynamic team

The following will be advantageous :

  • Previous research or clinical research experience
  • Knowledge about TB and respiratory infections
  • Availability to travel locally and internationally for site initiation and monitoring visits
  • Fluency in Afrikaans and / or isiXhosa
  • Good Clinical Practice Certificate
  • The successful candidate will have the following major responsibilities :

  • Recruitment and follow up of study participants in accordance with Good Clinical Practice
  • Clinical evaluation of patients and patient safety management (reviewing adverse events and serious adverse events)
  • Phlebotomy and transport of blood specimens to the laboratory from the clinical site may be occasionally required.
  • Maintenance, cross-checking (QC) and entry of accurate data at clinical site
  • Liaise closely and maintain effective communication with the project coordinator and the Principal Investigator.
  • Keeping an up-to-date register of all studies detailing timelines for reporting to Funder, ethics renewals and recruitment status.
  • Submitting research studies for regulatory approvals
  • Management, supervision, and teaching of clinical research staff as required by the project
  • There will be an opportunity to be involved in publications and a special program can be tailored for those wishing to pursue a masters or PhD (only if appropriate and this is not a job requirement)
  • Additional Information :

  • This position will be based between the Old Main Building, Groote Schuur Hospital, and the University of Cape Town Lung Institute, in Mowbray Cape Town
  • 12 months Fixed Term Contract
  • Working Hours : 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Closing Date : 15 October 2025
