Job descriptionBachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field Direct experience designing or developing 40mm grenade launchers Strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) Familiarity with military standards , ballistics , and material selection for weapon systems Experience with prototyping and functional testing in a defence or aerospace environment Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to design precision and compliance South African citizenship (due to defence export control regulations) Must be based in or willing to relocate to Centurion
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and develop components and assemblies for 40mm grenade launcher systems
- Perform detailed mechanical calculations and tolerancing suited to military applications
- Create 3D models and manufacturing drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor)
- Collaborate with prototyping, testing, and manufacturing teams to refine designs
- Ensure all systems comply with safety standards, functional specifications, and defence regulations
- Participate in internal and external design reviews
- Support testing, evaluation, and documentation aligned with NATO / military standards
- Investigate and resolve engineering issues during development and production phases
