TEN London is hiring a Mid-level Interior Designer to join our fast-growing team in Cape Town, South Africa. The ideal candidate should demonstrate at least 4+ years of hospitality and residential design experience as well as strong on-site experience and project management skills.

The role

We’re looking for a uniquely talented and detail-oriented Mid-Level Interior Designer who thrives within a team and faces every challenge with enthusiasm and dedication to bring a project from ideation to completion.

You will work closely with the creative director and other team members to produce creative design solutions that inspire and push boundaries. You will collaborate on project-specific concepts and design narratives to drive the design process on hospitality or residential projects.

Applicants should be confident with the interior design process stages, able to work on multiple projects concurrently, produce drawings and schedules, materials research and sourcing, through to procurement and installation, with site experience being an advantage.

What we are looking for

  • possess up-to-date knowledge of design trends, innovative design materials, products and suppliers
  • demonstrate cultural curiosity by keeping up with emerging spaces, developments, and environments that align with TEN’s creative and strategic vision
  • demonstrate a strong knowledge of interior design, a high standard of technical ability, and a strong understanding and knowledge of sustainably sourced materials
  • show a natural flair and understanding for the use of colours, patterns and artwork to create a strong depth of design diversity
  • have an exceptional eye for scale and balance, detail and colour
  • possess a strong understanding of, and appreciation for, sensorial and experiential design
  • able to showcase the ability to go up or down the scale on budget and design aesthetic
  • demonstrate the ability to ideate, design and develop beautiful bespoke furniture including case pieces, upholstery, lighting and joinery
  • we require you to show confidence in communicating ideas, presenting or pitching internally and externally

In this role, you will :

  • demonstrate proficiency and experience in spatial planning and internal architecture
  • create story / narrative-led concepts, mood boards, material proposals and presentations which meet the overall design concept, working collaboratively with the design team
  • translate the initial design concepts into design development, working within the project program
  • coordinate procurement, manage sample orders and the set-up of sample rooms etc.
  • develop and maintain the supplier library and contacts database, keeping up-to-date with industry developments, new products and trends for continued professional development
  • be proactive, self-starting and unafraid to take on responsibility to deliver a seamless service to our clients with exceptional communication throughout, open to feedback, and have lots of positive energy
  • attend regular internal design team meetings and collaborate on the conceptual and technical side of the design process
  • demonstrate the ability to multitask and manage a number of projects simultaneously and be able to respond effectively to complex questions
  • manage and review information produced by sub-contractors, suppliers and factories
  • have the ability to problem solve and troubleshoot and keep calm under pressure is paramount in this role – you should be able to take responsibility and remain accountable for any hiccups, whilst proposing solutions
  • have the ability to pre-empt challenges, risks and other issues is important – the candidate will be expected to think ahead and inform management of any issues in order to ensure the seamless delivery of our services
  • be responsible for a project until the end, ensuring the professional closure of projects, including snagging and other product-related handover
  • Requirements / qualifications :

  • at least 4+ years’ experience in hospitality design
  • experience working on all aspects of projects from concept to completion
  • extensive knowledge of FF&E with good suppliers and product knowledge
  • exceptional eye for detail, colours and diversity of product aesthetic
  • broad knowledge of materials and industry trends
  • self-motivated and proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and within the team environment
  • thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, creative environment with ability to multi-task and prioritise work to tight deadlines
  • experience of producing interior design drawing packages
  • confident communicator and problem-solver who works well under pressure
  • ability to present your ideas to the wider team
  • Software requirements :

  • Vectorworks and Revit
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator)
  • SketchUp
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
