Position Overview
The Mining Manager will assume legal responsibility in terms of Section 3.1(a) of the MHSA for the overall management, safety, and production of the Chrome mining operation. The role requires a strong leader with the ability to develop and deliver on a culture of operational excellence and a clear strategy supported by the requisite management operating systems. Technical expertise in hard rock mining (preferably bord and pillar trackless mechanised mining will be an advantage), proven operational management experience, and the ability to ensure full compliance with statutory regulatory requirements is a given.
Key Responsibilities
- Fulfil the duties and obligations of a 3.1(a) appointee as defined in the MHSA.
- Lead and manage mining operations to ensure safety, production, and profitability targets are achieved.
- Ensure legal compliance with all mining, safety, environmental, and health legislation.
- Implement and maintain effective risk management and control systems.
- Direct, train, manage and mentor all Heads of Department reporting into the 3.1(a) function.
- Oversee the design, planning, and execution of mining activities, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, conveying and all technical service associated activities.
- Manage production performance against budget and operational KPIs.
- Develop and enforce codes of practice, standard operating procedures and safe work practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in cost control, production efficiency and productivity and safety.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, unions, and community stakeholders when required.
- Report directly to the General Manager.
Qualifications & Requirements
BSc Mining Eng or equivalent degree or National Higher DiplomaBlasting Certificate for Scheduled Mines (essential).Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (Metalliferous Mines) (essential for 3.1a).At least 10-15 years’ mining experience, with a minimum of 10 years in a supervisory or management role.Sound knowledge of MHSA, Mine Environmental Management, and related legislation.Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Proven ability to manage teams and production in a unionised environment.Valid driver’s license and medical fitness to work on a mine.Ideal Candidate Profile
