Consolidation Reporting Business Partner at Old Mutual South Africa

Join to apply for the Consolidation Reporting Business Partner role within the Group Financial Control team. The role supports OML Group business partnering and reports to the Consolidation Reporting Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review specific inputs and outputs of OMLAC (SA) and / or OML consolidation in accordance with IFRS, Group accounting policies, Companies Act and JSE Listings Requirements.
  • Interpret and communicate complex financial issues and concepts to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Act as subject matter expert on value drivers, risks and Audit Committee focus areas.
  • Understand and explain internal and external business unit and Group information, both financial and non‑financial.
  • Manage and support other internal and external reporting deliverables including OML financial statements, SENS announcements and preparation of internal documents.
  • Drive and implement continuous improvements within the Group.

Key Result Areas

  • Statutory OMLAC (SA) and / or OML consolidation supporting monthly reporting and production of interim and annual financial statements and related disclosure supplements.
  • Analyze and review financial performance of OMLAC(SA) segments and consolidated Group; prepare analytical reviews and commentary.
  • Support quarterly consolidation as required; identify need for consolidation journals and correcting entries.
  • Prepare and review relevant consolidation journals and consolidation proofs.
  • Review business unit submissions, raise and resolve queries efficiently.
  • Prepare ad hoc information, presentations or reports and provide challenge and explanation to stakeholders.
  • Assist with management of inter‑company matching and eliminations processes.
  • Maintain Disclosure Management System for IFRS financial statements.
  • Provide guidance to team and segments on practical application of technical accounting opinions (e.g. Accounting for business combinations in HFM).
  • Lead various aspects of the external reporting process, including drafting disclosure notes, implementing new accounting standards and developing efficient data collection mechanisms.
  • Keep abreast of current accounting and tax developments; integrate accounting, actuarial and tax knowledge.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, Companies Act, JSE Listings Requirements and Group accounting policies through active engagement with segments, technical accounting and accounting systems (HFM).
  • Ensure HFM structures and Chart of Accounts are accurate and log amendments timely as part of HFM change release cycles.
  • Proactively review and improve the consolidation process and propose testing changes to the consolidation tool (HFM) as required.
  • Adhere to the financial and internal controls framework for Group Finance.
  • Management Effectiveness

  • Create and maintain productive relationships with segments and IFRS Financial Reporting Team.
  • Business partner with segment accounting teams to address key issues and resolve impacts on Group financial results.
  • Manage interdependencies with key stakeholders (External Reporting, Internal Reporting, Regulatory Reporting, Balance Sheet Management, Group Actuarial, Tax).
  • Liaise with auditors to deliver timely and accurate proofs and audit trail for segment consolidation and OMLAC(SA) and / or OML annual and interim financial statements.
  • Understand interactions of all financial reporting aspects of the Group and provide advice to stakeholders as required.
  • Participate and / or lead other ad hoc projects and activities as appropriate.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Requirements

  • Qualified CA (SA) with 1–4 years post qualification experience.
  • Strong understanding of IFRS, JSE Listings Requirements and insurance company accounting; exposure to IFRS 17 is beneficial.
  • Experience in consolidations and / or financial reporting of a listed multi‑national.
  • Understanding of legal and management consolidation structures and commitment to process disciplines and controls.
  • Ability to deal with complex technical issues and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills and extensive experience with HFM or similar consolidation reporting software.
  • Flexibility, willingness to work outside defined role and hours, and ability to learn fast.
  • Team player, motivated self‑starter and proactive approach to problem resolution.
