Human Resources Manager | Driving Growth, Engagement and Excellence

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Managing Director / Business Development Manager this position will focus on primarily growing Industrial Sales, outside of South Africa, in the Sub‑Saharan region in Africa specifically, but not limited to, the Cement Manufacturing-, Copper Smelter and Petrochemical and Boiler Industries.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and implement a business plan with measurable goals, targets and other outcomes for the African region and the associated Territories, industries, and Customers.
  • Identify, plan and organize effective strategies, in conjunction with (or) under direction of the Business Development Manager, to grow sales specifically but not limited to, Cement Manufacturing, Copper Smelting, Petrochemical and Boiler Industries. A knowledge of the Steel and / or Foundry Industry will also be beneficial.
  • Prepare and maintain an accurate, up‑to‑date analysis of market potential of monolithic refractories together with all other business and revenue streams, consumed in the region for each Country for each applicable Market Sector.
  • Submit, present, and effectively discuss marketing material or technical related subject matter with Customers or third‑party stakeholders.
  • Use all resources available at Allied to educate, motivate, troubleshoot, and service new and existing customers through the various support functions (Engineering Services Request, Precast Shape Requests, Product Services Request, AMTS and R&D requests).
  • Communicate timeously to management and staff the necessary information to develop and maintain an effective approach concerning inventory, administration and other functional requirements supporting sales, finance, production, and deliveries.
  • Maintain Allied’s image as a leader in the production of monolithic refractories and ensure that Allied maintains an active role in the industry trade organizations, assisting when necessary to plan, organize and attend any such functions and / or conventions.
  • Keep current with competitive products and pricing and make sure that we can respond with new developments to protect our business and maintain growth. Keep competitive price files and competitive information files current.
  • Develop market information regarding product needs and volumes, consumer locations, and pricing for areas of new business, either within our current markets or new potential markets where our technological capability can provide us with the means to contribute new profits to Allied.
  • Oversee and / or supervise refractory installations to ensure quality and build trust with the end‑users.
  • Assist management in the movement and location of service equipment and manpower in the planning of installations where and when applicable.
  • Manage sales activities on a day‑to‑day basis, as well as any employee, service personnel, distributors, and / or agents as directed and appointed by top management.
  • Identify, develop, and implement an effective sales strategy for every customer, together with a defined sales call plan.
  • Submit annual measurable goals and objectives to management to be formally reviewed at six‑month intervals and informally at more frequent intervals as and when needed.
  • Maintain and present a monthly update on trial status, and a quarterly report on the progress of goals and target accounts together with new or lost opportunities and other general sales related information. 16. Submit a monthly expense account stipulating any entertainment, operational or travel expenses for approval by management in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Conduct regular comprehensive. These reviews may include the following : the status of current and projected business; how much effort was given to goals and targets, including how they ended the fiscal year or quarter in terms of sales calls made versus calls planned; the number of call reports analysis of budgeted expenses versus actual expenses; the forecast for the coming year to be determined in conjunction with and approved by management.
  • Make regular customer calls, also with distributors and / or agents where applicable, building lasting and valuable relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Work with other International Regional Managers and / or employees, to coordinate and communicate collective, international business efforts where applicable.
  • Read all related call reports, sales literature and other news‑grams keeping abreast of general market trends and news externally and internally. Make sure that information transmitted is recorded properly in our various databases and files.
  • Review prices of Allied products and make recommendations for changes to protect business and maximise profit, making sure that prices are properly applied together with associated price increases.
  • Oversee and Management any warehousing and associated inventory within your territories ensuring regular and healthy stock conversion.
  • Manage your Territory, to ensure you are in step with company policies relating to product liability, warranties (expressed or implied), credit and returned products, etc.
  • Write detailed call reports and distribute them on a timely basis.
  • Maintain a list of all related and applicable business and revenue stream opportunities.
  • Work with the credit department to minimise bad debt exposure and reduce A / R days. This job description illustrates the types of duties performed in this job.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a technical or business discipline is preferred.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Must have the necessary business acumen, negotiation and presentation skills required for selling high value, technical solutions with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a successful background in sales and management with a minimum of 5‑10 years’ experience with direct industrial, metallurgical or other technical experience in one or more of the following manufacturing industries : Cement, Copper and / or Petrochemical and possess a thorough knowledge of these industries.
  • Experience with the installation of refractories will be an advantage.
  • Must possess or obtain all required licences, inductions, safety or other training requirements and keep them current.
  • Requires sound understanding of ceramic materials and refractories as well as the various applications it is typically installed in, for the typical industries, as outlined herein.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be a collaborator, possess high level of professionalism, energy, and the ability to be initiative‑taking and work independently.
  • Must have a sound ability for problem solving.
  • Have the necessary business acumen, negotiation and presentation skills required for selling high value, technical solutions with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be willing and able to travel frequently (50% of the time) to Eastern, Southern, Central and Western Africa, noted as the Sub‑Saharan Region as well as periodically internationally and when so required to attend Sales Conferences or other industry conventions.
  • Relocation may be an option / possibility.
  • Will be provided office / desk space and all the required tools like a laptop and cellphone. Provisions for a company car or car allowance, a fuel card, coverage for travel and accommodation costs, as well as opportunities for training and development will be provided.
  • Required to follow Allied Mineral Products’ safety & health policy and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as appropriate and stipulated by the customer or responsible supervisor of the area of concern.
  • Physical Requirements

    It is understood that if a job is offered, applicants must consent to taking a pre‑employment drug screening test and / or physical examination as a condition of beginning employment. It may also be required that a drug screening test and / or physical examination be taken in the future as needed to determine fitness for duty.
