Role : Accountant / Bookkeeper

Priority Location : South Africa, LatAm & Philippines

Working Hours : 40 hours per week, aligned with PST timezone

Type of contract : Independent Contractor

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant with direct experience in credit or lending fintech to join our growing remote team. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, safeguarding company assets, and partnering with leadership on strategic decision-making. As the business scales, you will also design processes and automation to support growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end and year-end close process end-to-end.
  • Manage invoicing, payments, collections, and reconciliations, ensuring timely processing.
  • Maintain up-to-date general ledger entries, journals, and accounting records.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annual) in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support budgets, forecasts, and strategic decisions.
  • Track and analyze business expenses, recommending cost optimizations.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards.
  • Liaise with external auditors and CPAs to manage audits and tax compliance.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of financial processes and systems.
  • Implement scalable solutions for automation and efficiency as the company grows.

Qualifications

  • Critical : Proven credit or lending fintech experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred).
  • 3-5+ years in accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, reporting, tax, and audit processes.
  • Advanced experience with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Growth mindset with adaptability to evolving challenges.

    • Nice to Have

  • Background with Big Four or other top-tier firms.
  • Experience with fintech money-movement or lending workflows.
  • Experience with trade credit, payments, or factoring.
  • Experience using AI tools for accounting automation
