Overview

HSE Specialist - Cape Town, South Africa

We are looking for a HSE Specialist to provide expert advice and guidance to drive consistent HSE standards across the company and different services lines, playing a key role in developing the company’s HSE strategy. Lead initiatives around employee engagement with HSE and continuously identify actions to improve HSE performance, culture and approach. Ensure full compliance with current HSE legislation and keep up to date with new legislation, particularly all relating to the wind industry.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Engage with technicians and customers to ensure a safe working environment through the implementation of SRE’s safety non-negotiables.
  • Facilitate and lead in-house training with technicians regarding Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
  • Create specific HSE Plans to ensure all personnel understand the individual requirements, risks and controls for each project.
  • Assist in developing risk assessments and methods statements and advise on risk reduction measures.
  • Provide guidance, advice and support regarding workplace assessments, any resulting modifications and ensuring compliance with the relevant local legislation.
  • Develop and motivate the team and support on both daily operations and strategic direction.
  • Perform site safety walks and behavioural safety assessments and support other less experienced colleagues.
  • Conduct HSEQ audits to continually improve the business management system and maintain ISO certification.
  • Ensure that all incidents and near misses are reported and investigated in a timely manner.
  • Support in the closure of actions related to audits and investigations.
  • Support key HSE initiatives, including campaigns and awareness.
  • HSE personnel onsite as directed.
  • Any other duties as directed.

Qualifications And Experience

  • NEBOSH Certificate or similar
  • Registered with SACPCMP as health and safety officer or manager
  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • Good IT skills with experience
  • Must have a Valid South African driver’s licence
  • Experience in the wind industry
  • Sound knowledge of HSE legislation specifically working at heights
  • Sound knowledge of ISO
  • Working away from home (Cape Town) as and when required
  • Must be able to work at heights
  • GWO Basic Safety Training (preferable)
  • Fall Protection Planner (preferable)
  • Other Information

    The above responsibilities are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the incumbent may be called upon to carry out such other appropriate alternative or additional duties as may be required which are within their capability and competence. The job holder may also be required to work at other locations operated by the company as well as carrying out customer and supplier site visits.
