Base pay range
This role will support a US Client, with hours 6am - 3pm SAST. This role is fully remote and can be worked anywhere in South Africa. It is a junior IT monitoring role, ideally seeking individuals with 1-2 years of experience working for an MSP in an L1 / NOC role.
Position Overview
The NOC (Network Operations Center) Technician is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and ensuring the health and performance of client systems, servers, and workstations. This role involves performing proactive system checks, responding to alerts, executing scheduled maintenance, and ensuring all environments remain compliant with the business's standards and security policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor client infrastructure for alerts and performance issues using the business's monitoring tools.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly system health checks on servers, workstations, and network devices.
- Respond to and resolve alerts in accordance with defined SLAs.
- Execute routine maintenance tasks, including patch management, backups, and firmware updates.
- Document all actions, incidents, and resolutions in the ticketing system with high accuracy.
- Escalate unresolved or critical issues to Tier 1 / 2 / 3 engineers as needed.
- Ensure all systems remain compliant with the business's security and operational standards.
- Collaborate with the Service Desk and Engineering teams to improve processes and reduce recurring issues.
- Participate in after-hours on-call rotation as required.
Technical Focus Areas
Monitoring Tools : Proficiency in RMM platforms and alert management.System Maintenance : Windows Server, Active Directory, patching, and backup verification.Networking : Basic understanding of switches, firewalls, and connectivity troubleshooting.Compliance : Apply security, patching, and documentation standards.Qualifications
Associate’s degree in IT or equivalent experience.2+ years in an L1 support, NOC or systems monitoring role.Strong knowledge of Windows Server environments and workstation management.Familiarity with RMM tools, ticketing systems, and patch management.Excellent attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Strong communication and documentation skills.Seniority level
