Strategic Portfolio Manager

Job Description

We’re seeking a Strategic Portfolio Manager to lead the development and institutionalisation of a Strategic Portfolio Office (SPO) framework that drives alignment, accountability, and strategic value across the organisation. The ideal candidate will combine deep expertise in portfolio, programme, and project management with the ability to design governance frameworks, implement best practices, and elevate enterprise-wide delivery maturity.

Key Responsibilities

SPO Development & Strategy

Design and implement the SPO operating model, governance structures, and strategic frameworks.

Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and templates to standardise portfolio management practices.

Drive the institutionalisation of portfolio management across the organisation.

Portfolio Management

Oversee the strategic alignment, prioritisation, and performance of the project portfolio.

Monitor portfolio health, risks, and benefits realisation to ensure value delivery.

Facilitate decision-making on resource allocation and investment optimisation.

Stakeholder Engagement

Partner with executive leadership to align portfolio strategy with organisational goals.

Provide strategic recommendations and data-driven insights to senior stakeholders.

Lead communication and change management efforts to embed SPO practices.

Capability Building

Strengthen organisational capability in portfolio management through training and mentoring.

Establish performance metrics and continuous improvement mechanisms for the SPO.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Strategy, Finance, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

8–10 years’ experience in portfolio, programme, or project management.

Demonstrated success in setting up or leading a Strategic Portfolio Office.

Certification in Portfolio Management (PfMP®, MoP®, or equivalent) advantageous.

Additional Focus Areas

Assessment of the current state of project management within the organisation.

Development of SPO-related policies, documentation, and institutionalisation strategies.

Analysis of existing project management systems (e.g. Project for the Web).
