Overview

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Inventory Controller to lead the setup and optimization of inventory management systems and practices at a remote mining operation in Southern Africa. This is a hands-on role requiring deep technical knowledge, strategic thinking, and the ability to coach and uplift local teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inventory System Setup : Design and implement robust inventory control systems tailored to mining operations.
  • Material Master Improvement :

Standardize and enhance item coding

  • Develop accurate technical descriptions
  • Integrate OEM part numbers
  • Establish and maintain min / max stock levels
  • Stock Rationalization :
  • Identify and eliminate redundant or obsolete stock

  • Support disposal or repurposing strategies
  • Bill of Materials (BoMs) :
  • Develop BoMs for critical assets and equipment

  • Align BoMs with maintenance and procurement plans
  • Material Requirements Planning (MRP) :
  • Initiate and manage MRP processes

  • Forecast demand based on operational schedules
  • Stock Holding Review :
  • Audit current practices and procedures

  • Recommend and implement improvements
  • Inventory Optimization :
  • Balance availability with cost-efficiency

  • Reduce stockouts and overstocking
  • Staff Coaching & Development :
  • Train warehouse and procurement personnel

  • Promote best practices and system literacy
  • Stakeholder Management :
  • Ensure ongoing communication with Management

  • Conduct weekly head of section meetings, information sessions and training sessions where required or when there are process changes
  • Ensure safety, legal and company policies are adhered to.
  • Implement a culture of best-practice maintenance.
  • Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience in inventory control, preferably in mining or heavy industry
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Pronto, Oracle)
  • Proven experience in setting up inventory systems from scratch
  • Technical aptitude in mechanical / electrical components and mining equipment
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in remote and challenging environments
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Previous remote site or international mining experience advantageous
  • Fluent in English
