POSITION INFO :
Main purpose of the job : Experience of conducting 2D and 3D ultrasound with doppler where relevant in adults and children, including ultrasound of the heart, carotid, kidneys and conducting fetal ultrasound during pregnancy including assessment of uterine and umbilical artery blood flowLocation : DPHRU – Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, SowetoKey performance areas
Perform high‑quality fetal ultrasound scans following clinical protocolsAssess fetal development, anatomy and detect abnormalitiesEnsure correct positioning of the patient for optimal imagingOperate and adjust ultrasound machines to optimise image qualityPerform routine maintenance and report equipment issuesStay updated on the latest ultrasound technology and techniquesCapture and analyse high‑quality images for research data collection and screening purposesProvide preliminary findings to the study leads and complete referrals where relevantAccurately document scan results on REDCAPFollow professional guidelines, infection control and radiation safety standardsTake ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self‑managementFollow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintainedMaintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedbackParticipate in ongoing training and development activities such as workshops, forums, conferences etc to drive own career developmentApply knowledge of the organisational systems, structures, policies and procedures to achieve resultsProvide appropriate resolution for tasks or deadlines not metSupport and drive the organisation’s core valuesMaintain confidentiality, tact and discretion at all timesManage self and prioritise own workload; self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary teamWork under pressure and meet deadlinesExercise excellent organisational, communication and problem‑solving skills; support the research team to deliver project goals on time and on budgetWork independently to deliver on projects' operational goals and objectivesTeaching and supervision experience would be desirableRequired minimum education and training
Grade 12Trained and Registered SonographerGCPDriver’s licence and able to drive a manual vehicleProfessional Body Registration
Must be registered in ultrasonography with the Health Professions Council of SA (HPCSA)Required minimum work experience
At least 2‑3 years’ experience working as a SonographerDesirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
