Provide assurance activities by reviewing operational and regulatory compliance processes, practices and documents to evaluate adherence and to ensure that compliance risks (either from an operational and / or regulatory perspective) are adequately assessed and monitored for the Scheme. Be a trusted advisor to the 1st line of defense (1st line) but maintain independence of mind as part of the 2nd line of defense (2nd line).
Responsibilities
Contribute to maintaining and considering ongoing enhancements of the compliance framework (framework encompasses the overall compliance framework (policy, manual, relevant templates etc.) and related processes) to identify, assess, monitor and report all material compliance risks.
Provide recommendations to business on compliance matters to enable them to implement policies and procedures that are compliant with legislation / leading practices to ensure mitigation of relevant compliance risks.Collaborate with service providers, Internal Audit and External Audit to oversee controls / processes that prevent / detect violations of policies and regulations.Ensure compliance risks are managed by developing / updating the Compliance Risk Management Plans (CRMPs) on an ongoing basis in line with the annual Risk and Compliance Coverage Plan.Compliance Monitoring and ReportingExecute on the agreed annual Risk and Compliance Coverage Plan (including compliance specific reviews) for the GRC Function within set timelines, this includes but not limited to :
Attend planning and opening meetings with key stakeholders to understand the process and document the risks and controls in line with the scope area.Evaluate controls, apply assurance techniques and methodology, prepare assurance working papers, and document findings in line with the Compliance Manual in place.Ensure accurate and timely reporting on any non-compliance, the management of compliance risks, and the state of compliance within the Scheme structures.Comment on mitigating actions to be implemented by stakeholders through assessment of the adequacy thereof and recommend further corrective action (e.g., documenting policies and processes, etc.).Qualifications and Experience
Post Graduate Diploma in Compliance Management; or Internal Auditing; or Risk Management.CPrac (SA) - Compliance Practitioner designation from CISA.Certificate in Compliance Management.Certifications offered through the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).Relevant experience and working knowledge of compliance management.Relevant experience and working knowledge of audit practices and methodology.Experience in the financial services industry.Skills and Knowledge
Considerable knowledge of and skill in applying compliance monitoring principles and practices.Considerable knowledge of policies, procedures, regulations and legislation.Considerable skill in conducting assurance reviews, quality control and compliance related reviews.Effective verbal and written communication, including interpersonal and active listening skills and skills in auditing and presenting findings and recommendations.Skill in planning and reporting, and in maintaining composure under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines.Skill in resolving problems.The advert is open and inclusive to all applicable candidates, and preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates aligned to the Scheme’s transformation objectives.
