Role Overview
- The Inbound & Outbound Controller is responsible for coordinating and managing the end-to-end inbound and outbound logistics activities across the Sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) region. This includes controlling vehicle movements from OEM/export hubs into the region, managing imports, customs processes, stock movements, and onward distribution to local markets and dealers.
- The ideal candidate has strong logistics coordination experience, an understanding of international trade and customs, and can work effectively with freight providers, border authorities, distributors, and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Inbound Logistics
- Ensure orders and pricing are entered correctly and on time in the relevant systems.
- Communicate allocation results clearly to dealers.
- Coordinate inbound vehicle shipments from global manufacturing plants/export hubs into SSA markets.
- Monitor vessel schedules, booking confirmations, ETAs, ETDs, and transit milestones.
- Ensure documentation accuracy: commercial invoices, BLs, COO, packing lists, compliance certifications, etc.
- Liaise with clearing agents, freight forwarders, and border authorities for customs clearance and import procedures.
- Track delays, disruptions, and proactively communicate impacts to markets and internal teams.
Outbound / Regional Distribution
- Plan and control outbound vehicle movements from central stock or ports to local markets/dealers.
- Coordinate regional trucking and transport partners across SSA routes.
- Monitor delivery performance metrics (OTIF, transit times, damage tracking).
- Manage cross-border paperwork, customs documentation, and export processes.
- Support dealer markets with distribution visibility, delivery priorities, and escalations.
Stock & System Control
- Maintain accurate system records for pipeline, landed stock, bonded stock, and regional dispatch.
- Reconcile inbound and outbound movements to ensure 100% traceability.
- Support inventory accuracy, stock audits, and reporting for finance and operations.
Stakeholder Management & Reporting
- Work cross-functionally with sales, supply planning, finance, customs, dealers, and logistics service providers.
- Prepare weekly/monthly reports on pipeline status, border movements, logistics KPIs, and risks.
- Recommend corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives to streamline operations.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- 3+ years logistics or supply chain experience, preferably in automotive.
- Knowledge of import/export processes, customs, and international freight.
- Proficiency in Excel and logistics systems (ERP, tracking portals, etc.).
Preferred:
- Experience working across African regional logistics or cross-border environments.
- Understanding of vehicle logistics, port operations, and bonded warehousing.
- Knowledge of Incoterms, trade compliance, and transport regulations.
