• Education : You must have passed Grade 12. If you have a diploma or degree in agriculture or a related field, that’s a big plus.

Daily Tasks You’ll Be Doing

Working as an Assistant Farmer is not just feeding chickens. You’ll be involved in many tasks to make sure the farm runs smoothly :

1. Preparing Chicken Houses

Before any chicks arrive, you’ll help set up the space so that it’s warm, clean, and perfect for growing healthy birds.

2. Chick Placement

You’ll work with the hatchery and other staff to receive the chicks and make sure they are placed correctly in their new home.

3. Brooding and Growing

Once the chicks are placed, it’s your job to keep the temperature and humidity just right. You’ll check the birds daily, keep track of feed, water, and monitor their health.

4. Ventilation and Water

You’ll adjust air settings and water pressure to match what the birds need as they grow. Clean water lines and sanitation are key to keeping the birds healthy.

5. Feeding

You’ll manage how and when the birds are fed. This includes checking feed deliveries, bin stock, and adjusting the height of feeders as the birds get bigger.

6. Farm Outsourcing

You’ll work with outside teams who help with things like catching birds. You’ll make sure everything is ready for them and that all documents are correct.

You must follow strict hygiene rules to keep the farm disease-free. You’ll also help with vaccinations and make sure everyone follows the rules.

8. Bird Health

You’ll check the birds every day for signs of illness. If needed, you’ll send dead birds to the lab for checks.

9. Keeping Records

You’ll help maintain important records like health and safety files, feeding logs, and mortality rates.

10. Managing Staff

You’ll help manage workers on the farm, keep their attendance and training records, and hold meetings when needed.
