Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION :
The successful candidate will be competent researcher in the field of plant ecology, plant ecophysiology or bioinformatics with a proven track of accredited publications and the ability to communicate this research to fellow scientists and the public.In addition, it is desirable that the candidate have experience in undergraduate teaching and learning and has mentored postgraduate students in the field of Botany. In this position the candidate would be expected to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level and to actively engage in research and attract research funding.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Teaching and Learning, including Higher Degree Supervision.OHS (Occupational Health and Safety).Personal Research, Innovation and / or Creative Outputs.Academic Leadership, Management and Administration.Social Responsiveness and Industry Involvement.Minimum requirements
LECTURER :
A Masters’ degree (NQF level 9) in Botany or Plant Ecology.A minimum of 2 years’ experience lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate students.SENIOR LECTURER :
A PhD (NQF level 10) in Botany or Plant Ecology.A minimum of 3 years’ experience lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate students.Supervision of Masters and PhD students.A track record of research publications.KEY FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES :
Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internetStatistical techniques for plant community analysis and interpretationKnowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performanceProficiency in research methodology and technical writingA proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing.Effective time-management skills.Effective communication skills.Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation.Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.The ability to function well individually and as part of a team or subject group.Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven.The ability to solve problems independently.Good planning and organising skills as well as good report writing skills.A valid driver’s licence is required.BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES :
