Senior Engineer: Protection & Control/Substations

A large consulting company with offices across South Africa and internationally are looking to hire a Senior Engineer: Protection & Control/Substations

This position is responsible for providing professional services on projects within the Division, leading and executing substation secondary plant (Protection, Control, Telecoms and Metering) designs within the group.

Minimum Requirements:

•Bachelor of Engineering degree/higher degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited university

• Relevant Professional Registration – Pr Eng / PR Tech

• 10 Year experience post-graduation in Secondary Plant designs and execution for Transmission and Distribution Projects

• Minimum 6 years of professional experience in Substation (33kV – 330kV) design including function and detailed design, application of relay logics; and creation of protection scheme drawings.

• Experience in design management and design delivery for projects and managing professional teams of medium/large T&D projects

• Specialist Knowledge in Substation Secondary Plant standards and applications

• Specialist Knowledge power System Studies would be beneficial

Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead all substation secondary-plant technical designs and relevant project inputs (Protection, Control, Telecoms and Metering)

• Responsible for the project management of medium/large projects

• Responsible for the management and coordination of multi-disciplinary project teams

• Take responsibility for budgets, resourcing and outsourcing of project work within the section, as well as agree project budgets with other sections on large projects comprising multi-disciplinary project teams

• Author competent technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality

• Check work of all those in the project team and take responsibility for their work

• Present / represent their technical work

• Draft successful responses to bids

• Regular client contact under direction of more senior manager

• Successful in identifying and following through on leads associated with additional work prospects on the projects they are involved with

• Discuss in detail with clients the business technologies and markets

• Train others in respective functional field and build a team

• Supervise Engineers or Technicians in undertaking checks and inspections of constructed works for compliance with design and specifications, including monitoring and proposing remedial actions

• Development and/or bb of function group specific design procedures

• Plan and coordinate investigations and surveys

• Coordinate work between functions
