Lecturer (Clinical Educator) – AC.08

Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).

Location : Johannesburg, South Africa.

Job Description : The Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a committed and experienced medical professional to join our team as a Clinical Educator. This part‑time 90% post is ideally suited to a Senior Medical Registrar or higher (Physician) with a passion for medical education and a strong commitment to shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the Graduate Entry Medical Program (GEMP 1–4), maintaining and enhancing teaching quality on the Internal Medicine Clinical Training Platform.
  • Coordinate teaching activities across three central academic hospitals : Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH), Helen Joseph Hospital (HJH), and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH) as well as at various affiliated and future teaching sites.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and ensure consistency in clinical teaching standards across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with academic and clinical staff to support the effective delivery of undergraduate medical education.
  • Conduct and publish qualitative research related to clinical education and teaching initiatives within Internal Medicine and the Unit for Undergraduate Medical Education (UUME).
  • Assist in capturing and analysing data from the GEMP teaching programmes to inform best practices and contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 2 years of post‑medical registrar clinical experience.
  • Full, independent registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Experience in medical education and / or clinical teaching will be advantageous.
