Job description

Our client, a well-established catering company, is seeking a highly organised, hands-on, and customer-focused Function Coordinator to join their team in Grahamstown. This exciting role is ideal for an energetic individual who enjoys both event coordination and being actively involved in kitchen and operational activities.The successful candidate will play a key role in planning and coordinating functions while also assisting with food preparation, stock control, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of catering operations.


Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage functions, events, and catering bookings from enquiry to execution.
  • Liaise with clients to understand event requirements, budgets, and expectations.
  • Prepare quotations, function sheets, event schedules, and booking documentation.
  • Ensure all events are costed accordingly.
  • Coordinate with kitchen and service teams to ensure seamless event delivery.
  • Assist with food preparation and kitchen operations as required.
  • Monitor stock levels, conduct stock counts, and assist with inventory control.
  • Receive, check, and manage stock deliveries.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations.
  • Conduct site visits and assist with event setup, set down, cleaning and logistical planning.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Ensure the function costs remain under budget.
  • Ensure HSE procedures are carried out and HSE documentation is complete.


Requirements


  • Grade 12 (essential).
  • Chef qualification, culinary certificate, or relevant hospitality training advantageous.
  • 3+ years' experience in a commercial kitchen, catering environment, restaurant, or hospitality operation.
  • Sound understanding of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for delivering quality food.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays when required.
