Casella Waste Systems, Inc.South AfricaPosition SummaryThe Diesel Technician maintains diesel equipment, completes inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, corrects vehicle deficiencies, performs adjustments and alignments, and maintains records to ensure safety and customer service commitments are met.Technicians at Casella participate in a Career Pathways program that offers exceptional advancement opportunities and regular merit increases.Key ResponsibilitiesPerforms all job duties in accordance with company safety policies and regulations.Performs maintenance tasks based on driver pre- and post-trip inspections in a timely manner or as directed by the maintenance manager.Maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventative maintenance, making appropriate corrections when needed.Works in adverse conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow to repair equipment and vehicles.Builds and assembles machines or mechanical components according to requirements.Troubleshoots reported problems and resolves them promptly.Maintains all relevant records for work and procedures and reports issues.Performs accurate lockout / tagout procedures.Runs diagnostic tests on vehicles, analyzes results, and tests drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions when necessary.Performs procedures to ensure maximum reliability and safety of equipment, including preventative maintenance inspections, tire changes, brake replacements, and rebuilding hydraulic components and hoses.Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services.Career Path Definitions & DistinctionsTechnician Apprentice : Works alongside a knowledgeable Casella Waste Diesel Technician to learn skills, focusing on preventative maintenance and safety.Technician B : Identifies operating issues, tests and troubleshoots electrical and mechanical problems, and corrects issues using standard procedures and diagnostic equipment.Technician A : Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs vehicle systems to ensure safe and dependable operation.Master Technician : Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs all vehicle and equipment systems, including rebuilding engines and replacing major components.Education, Experience & QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED required.
Must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Class A, B, or C driver's license, and be eligible to work in the U.S. A minimum of 1-year experience in inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and stationary equipment is required.
Strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills are desired.
