About the Role
An established trading and logistics business is seeking a technically strong Logistics Controller with a core focus on customs clearing.
This is not a freight forwarding or documentation coordination role. The successful candidate will execute the full clearing function in-house and take ownership of import processes from a customs and compliance perspective.
The role requires a hands-on clearing specialist who works directly on ACS, frames Bills of Entry, manages deferment accounts, and ensures full regulatory compliance across multiple South African ports.
Key Responsibilities

Frame, submit, and amend Import and Export Bills of Entry in ACS.

Execute customs submissions directly with SARS across multiple ports.

Manage tariff classification and interpret customs legal texts.

Adjust entries post-discharge and resolve customs queries or stops.

Monitor Customs NATIS system and ensure timely release notifications.

Manage deferment accounts and ensure payments are processed before due dates.

Prepare and process supplier commercial invoices in FUSION.

Coordinate with regulatory bodies including SARS, Agriculture, Port Health, and SABS.

Apply for and renew relevant import permits and ensure ongoing compliance.

Support month-end financial processes including AR and AP invoicing.

Liaise with internal trading, logistics, and finance teams to ensure accurate duty and freight calculations.
Requirements

Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in customs clearing.

Proven hands-on experience framing and submitting Bills of Entry in ACS.

Strong knowledge of tariff classification and customs regulations.

Experience managing deferment accounts and high-value customs payments.

Exposure to bulk commodity imports and vessel operations highly advantageous.

Proficiency in FUSION and Microsoft Excel.

Strong understanding of SARS procedures and regulatory compliance requirements.
