We are seeking Senior Consultants Shaft Leads to spearhead transformation across underground shaft operations. You will lead structured management systems, enhance safety culture, integrate contractor performance, and help build the foundation for future production ramp-up.
Key Responsibilities :
Lead the Transformation
- Drive implementation of a comprehensive Target Attainment Plan for an assigned shaft
- Establish and run a Shaft War Room for real-time performance management
- Integrate bottom-up safety programmes into daily operations
- Coordinate improvement initiatives across mining and engineering teams
Build Robust Management Systems
Co-design and implement structured leadership routines and shaft management practicesEstablish visual management tools and shift management booksDevelop meeting agendas, structured communications, and operational protocolsSupport optimisation of organisational structures and operating modelsStrengthen Contractor Integration
Align contractor teams with required safety systems, routines, and performance standardsEnsure seamless operational integration between contractors and mining teamsFacilitate contractor involvement in transformation initiativesMonitor and improve contractor KPIsDrive Performance & Safety Excellence
Improve production, development, grade control, and equipment availabilityIntegrate SLAMs, PTOs, VFLs, and safety coaching into operational routinesFoster continuous improvement and self-driven operational behavioursBaseline current performance and set strengthened targetsCollaborate Across Stakeholders
Work closely with shaft management, mining operations, engineering, and key support servicesCoordinate with broader management teams and functional areasProvide clear progress reporting to leadership and steering committeesCoach and uplift frontline leaders and supervisorsJob Experience & Skills Required (Ideal Candidate Profile) :
Essential Experience
10+ years in mining operations, with at least 5 years in underground miningSuccessful experience leading operational transformation or performance improvement programmesStrong understanding of underground production, development, and support systemsExperience implementing structured management routines and performance systemsProven safety leadership experience and understanding of safety culture developmentExperience working with contractor / Business Partner operating modelsAbility to drive change across complex, multi-stakeholder environmentsHighly Advantageous
Experience in African or copper mining environmentsFamiliarity with underground methods such as room-and-pillarExperience in ramp-up, turnaround, or recovery operationsCertification in Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologiesExperience working directly with contractor-led operational modelsQualifications
