Introduction
The External Sales Representative is responsible for growing market share within the designated sales area through effective customer acquisition, relationship management, and achievement of sales targets.
The role focuses on driving sales of steel, heat treatment, and machining services, while ensuring excellent customer service and alignment with company goals
Duties & Responsibilities
- Grow market share in the designated sales area.
- Manage all external sales activities for steel, heat treatment, and machining customers.
- Actively pursue new customer acquisition and development of existing accounts.
- Identify opportunities to upsell and cross‑sell value‑added services.
- Support and execute promotion activities defined by the Sales Manager.
- Conduct regular customer visits, including preparation, follow‑up, and CRM (Salesforce) updates.
- Handle customer inquiries, quotations, and negotiations (pricing, delivery timelines) and ensure timely offer follow‑ups.
- Prepare accurate sales forecasts for key and strategic accounts.
- Collaborate closely with the Supply Chain Management team to align sales forecasts with inventory and production plans.
- Contribute to the company's sales and market planning processes.
- Source alien materials or added‑value services to satisfy specific customer needs.
- Manage and resolve customer complaints, returns, and follow‑ups on credit / debit notes.
- Maintain accurate and consistent CRM (Salesforce) data including quotes, call reports, call planning, and opportunity tracking.
- Support the Marketing department by providing market data, intelligence, and feedback for campaigns and surveys.
- Participate in the annual stock take when required.
- Travelling internationally and in Africa will be required.
(Gauteng and outlying areas with some across border African travel)
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum 3 to 5 years of sales experience.Minimum requirement : business or technical related diploma.An Engineering and or Business degree is advantageous.A mechanical or millwright trade can also be advantageous.A general understanding of the steel industry.Sales experience and knowledge in specialized tool steels, stainless steel, alloys.Heat treatment or machining knowledge would be an advantage.
SAP and CRM (Salesforce) experience would be beneficial.Attended some value‑added solution sales programs / courses.Strong sales and negotiation skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.Strategic and analytical mindset for forecasting and planning.High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and accountability.Customer‑focused approach with the ability to build long‑term relationships.Self‑motivated with strong time management and organisational skills.Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Target driven and KPI orientated.Good communication, people and telephonic skills.Self‑motivated and disciplined.High energy and go‑getter.Good work attitude, loyalty and willing to succeed.Ability to plan, schedule and follow up.Fluent English mandatory and Afrikaans an advantage, French and Portuguese would also be an advantage.#J-18808-Ljbffr
