Plant Superintendent

Job descriptionSchedule plant activities, including services and maintenance, ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping. Coordinate daily and weekly duties with shift supervisors and operational teams. Job planning and scheduling of tasks to ensure smooth and uninterrupted plant operations. Ensure efficient allocation and utilisation of resources, including manpower, materials, and equipment. Work closely with the Maintenance Department to plan and coordinate routine services, inspections, and major repairs. Monitor equipment availability daily, targeting a minimum fleet and plant availability of 85% . Respond promptly to plant breakdowns and coordinate rapid resolution to minimise downtime. Contribute to root cause analysis and continuous reliability improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with all mine safety, health, environmental, and quality policies and standards. Conduct regular inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits. Lead and promote a zero-harm safety culture with continuous risk awareness initiatives. Lead, manage, and mentor plant supervisors, operators, and support staff. Coordinate daily duties and shift schedules to ensure adequate coverage and productivity. Conduct regular performance reviews, skills development plans, and team training initiatives. Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive, safe working culture. Maintain accurate records of plant operations, maintenance schedules, and downtime events. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production and performance reports for management review. Monitor and report on plant KPIs, recommending and implementing improvement strategies. National Diploma or Degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related field (essential). Valid Driver’s Licence. No criminal record. Minimum of 7–10 years’ experience in mineral processing or metallurgical operations, preferably in the chrome or ferroalloy sector. At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role within a processing environment. Proven track record in process optimisation and plant performance improvement. Experience in coordinating maintenance and managing major repairs in a production plant environment. Strong metallurgical and process knowledge of chrome recovery systems and equipment. Sound mechanical and technical aptitude. Proficiency in production reporting, plant monitoring, and process control systems (e.g., SCADA, ERP). Excellent planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills. Strong leadership and team management capabilities. Financial and operational reporting skills. Strategic thinker with a results-driven approach. Effective resource management and prioritisation skills. High level of accountability and integrity. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure. Empowering and motivating leadership style. Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Responsible for overseeing the efficient and safe operation, maintenance, and optimisation of the chrome processing plant. Ensures maximum availability, recovery, and quality performance of plant operations with minimal downtime or disruption to production. Provides leadership and technical expertise to plant supervisors and operational teams while ensuring strict adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards.

- Oversee daily operations of the chrome processing plant to achieve production, recovery, and quality targets.
- Monitor plant performance, analyse data, and implement process improvements for efficiency and cost optimisation.
- Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of plant performance, downtime, and operational issues.
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager to plan and achieve monthly and annual budget objectives.
