Senior Data Engineer

My client is a leader in providing innovative technology solutions that empower small to medium-sized businesses to compete globally by simplifying complex supply chain challenges. They are seeking a Data Engineer to join their fully remote team, reporting to the Director of Data and AI. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines, integrating with over 40 ERP systems to support more than 2,000 customers worldwide. Your work will involve data management, cleaning, transformation, and loading for benchmarking and AI-driven insights, ensuring data quality and compliance with privacy standards like ISO 27001. Youll collaborate with data analysts and stakeholders to deliver consumable datasets and insightful reports, while staying ahead of industry trends to future-proof the data infrastructure. The company fosters a supportive, remote-first culture with a focus on collaboration, continuous learning, and occasional team gatherings in South Africa.

Skills & Experience :

Experience in a related field (e.g., DevOps, Software Development, Data Engineering)

Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB)

Expertise in big data frameworks like Hadoop, Spark, or Hive

Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Scala, or similar data-oriented languages

Knowledge of data pipeline tools (e.g., Kafka, Airflow, NIFI)

Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform)

Understanding of data modeling, data architecture, and ETL / ELT processes

Conceptual knowledge of machine learning algorithms and deploying models to production

Familiarity with data security and privacy principles

Experience with Agile methodologies and Linux / Unix-based systems (preferred)

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple projects and support diverse stakeholder needs

Qualification :

Grade 12 or equivalent (essential)

Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (desired)
