SUMMARY:
A dynamic organization based in the East Rand is seeking to employ a Production Supervisor who is technically strong and can confidently lead a team, manage production priorities and provide practical machining expertise while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and efficiency

POSITION INFO:

Minimum Requirements

  • Trade Test or recognised qualification as a Fitter & Turner, Machinist, or equivalent.
  • 8–10 years’ machining experience within a heavy engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • 3–5 years’ supervisory/foreman experience.
  • Strong experience with VTLs, conventional lathes, CNC lathes, milling machines and horizontal borers.
  • Proven CNC programming, setup and troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and technical specifications.
  • Strong leadership, planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer literacy; experience with ERP/MRP systems will be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and prioritise daily and weekly machining activities.
  • Supervise, motivate and manage machine shop personnel.
  • Allocate work according to machine capacity, skills and production deadlines.
  • Provide hands-on technical support and assist with CNC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure machinery, tooling and equipment are utilised efficiently.
  • Monitor production targets, quality standards, downtime, scrap and rework.
  • Conduct first-off inspections and ensure components meet required specifications.
  • Enforce health, safety, PPE and housekeeping standards.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and minimise machine downtime.
  • Monitor tooling and consumables and control waste.
  • Train, coach and mentor machinists, CNC operators and apprentices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce costs and optimise machining processes.
  • Complete production reports and provide regular feedback to management.
  • Investigate NCRs and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
