Senior Accountant

POSITION INFO:
A leading organisation within the mining and exploration industry is looking for a dedicated and detail-driven Accountant to join its Finance Department in Johannesburg.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong finance professional who enjoys working across financial accounting, debtors, creditors, reconciliations, inventory, fixed assets and financial reporting, while also contributing to finance automation and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting

• Take full responsibility for the day-to-day accounting function.
• Perform general bookkeeping and accounting in conjunction with finance automation.
• Maintain the general ledger, subledgers and trial balance.
• Prepare and review management accounts and financial reconciliations.
• Manage the full creditors function.
• Oversee the debtors function, including outstanding balances, payments and account queries.
• Ensure accurate and timely customer invoicing.
• Monitor debtor days and support agreed collection targets.
• Manage the inventory accounting process, including inventory cost allocation, item creation, monthly reconciliations and stock count updates.
• Manage the fixed asset process, including capitalisation, depreciation journals and asset schedules.
• Manage cash flow and monitor working capital.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies and outstanding items.
• Support internal and external audit requirements.
• Assist with ad hoc finance requirements as needed.

Finance Automation & Process Improvement

• Review and validate outputs generated through automated finance processes.
• Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of finance processes.
• Support the ongoing development of technology-enabled accounting processes.

Administration & Compliance

• Maintain and manage accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Ensure efficient and accurate financial data management.
• Ensure all relevant accounting documentation is readily available and properly filed.

Job Experience and Skills Required:
BCom Accounting Degree
Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar accounting role.
Practical experience across general and financial accounting functions.
Strong understanding of reconciliations and financial reporting.
Knowledge of Sage Evolution is essential.
Intermediate Excel skills.
Experience with finance automation or technology-enabled accounting processes will be advantageous.
Knowledge of IFRS and sound accounting practices.
