SHERQ Officer (Food packaging)
Our client who manufactures food related products packaging is looking for a SHERQ Officer for a fixed term contract to facilitate the implementation of the SHE systems to reduce Occupational Health, Safety and environmental risks. The S.H.E.R. Q Officer have the authority to report matters of concern to the relevant Management and to interact with employees on all levels in order to raise awareness levels. The SHERQ or Plant Manager must be informed on issues of concern.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the organization in the development and maintenance of a SHERQ Management System, including Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Environmental Impacts and Aspects Registers, Method Statement, Safe work procedures, Contract Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, SHERQ checklist, SHE Plans, Environmental Plans, Fall Protection Plans, etc.
- Compiling of SHERQ files at Tender and Contract Award stages as per the client requirements / Specifications.
- Responsible to ensure that SHERQ documented information such as Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Environmental Impacts and Aspects Registers, Method Statement, Safe work procedures, Contract Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, SHERQ checklist, SHE Plans, Environmental Plans, Fall Protection Plans, Organogram and process flows are updated timeously.
- Developing new SHERQ procedures as per the client requirements / Specifications.
- Updating of SHERQ files i.e Letter of Good Standing, Appointments, Competency Certificates, Notification of Construction Work, etc
- Planning and conducting of SHERQ Audits, SHERQ Inspections, SHERQ Meeting, SHERQ Awareness, Tool box talks, SHERQ investigations, etc.
- Compiling of SHERQ audit reports, inspection reports, man job specification, training matrix, SHERQ monthly reports, etc
- Maintenance of SHERQ records such medical records, training records, approved fall protection plan, method statement, safe work procedure, SHE Plans, Environmental Plans, ITPs, Contract Plans, SHERQ Minutes of meeting, SHERQ monthly reports, SHERQ audits reports, inspection records / reports, Non-conformances, factory test reports, etc
- Ensure that non-conformances (Internal and external) are closed out within the stipulated timeline;
Implement & Maintain SHE Systems :
Develop, implement, and ensure ongoing compliance with the company''s SHE management systems and relevant legislative requirements.Risk Assessment & Audits :
Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety procedures.Incident Investigation :
Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement effective corrective actions.Training & Awareness :
Provide and facilitate SHE training, safety orientations, and inductions for employees and contractors.Compliance & Documentation :
Ensure adherence to environmental and health and safety legislation, manage SHE documentation, and compile performance reports for management.Safety Culture :
Promote and foster a proactive safety culture through safety awareness programs, campaigns, and continuous improvement initiatives.Environmental Management :
Oversee waste management, ensure compliance with environmental legislation, and promote sustainability initiatives.Contractor Management :
Ensure all site contractors are compliant with safety regulations and company policies before and during work on-site.Emergency Preparedness :
Coordinate and assist with emergency response and fire drills, ensuring all necessary equipment is serviced and availableManaging all training within the department.
Following up on open customer complaints, SHERQ issues and SHERQ Incidents.Ensure that Factory test reports and OEM Manuals are issued to the client / Supervisors.Ensure that correct personal protective equipment are ordered as per the clients specification.Promote SHERQ culture and report unsafe act and conditions to the Senior SHERQ Officer / Project Manager.Evaluation and assessment of Supplier / Subcontractor.Ensure that contractors complies with the SHERQ requirements.Ensure that lifting equipment and Safety harness are inspected on time at all times.Ensure that revised documents are linked on Q-pulse with the correct document number, revision number and the approved date.Minimum role requirements :
Grade 12,National Diploma or Bachelors degree in Safety Management / SAMTRACQuality Engineering Diploma / Total Quality Engineering Diploma,3-5years relevant experience based on the SHERQ Management SystemISO9001 / ISO14001 / ISO45001 & Eskom SHERQ Specifications / requirements.Fall Protection Plan, (including working at height )Incident Investigation, Root Cause Analysis,Environmental Management certificate / NEBOSH,Train the Trainer,Integrated Management System Auditor / Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Auditing,Other Legal Requirements Legal Liability, General Health Safety, OHS Act, Planned Job Observation, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Emergency Preparedness Coordinating training,
