Horse Trader (Sportsbook)

This is a high-impact role suited to someone with strong analytical instincts, an eye for opportunity, and a deep understanding of betting behaviour within the horse racing landscape.

Responsibilities

• Compile accurate and competitive odds for a wide variety of horse racing and sporting markets
• Monitor real-time race results and perform live trading, including in-play odds adjustments
• Manage exposure and risk across racing products to maximise profitability
• Conduct customer analysis to detect betting patterns and manage bet limits appropriately
• Investigate market trends to proactively inform trading strategies
• Monitor competitor pricing and react in real time to market movements
• Liaise with internal departments (e.g., Risk, Customer Support, Marketing) regarding sportsbook escalations
• Stay abreast of global horse racing news and events to inform odds-setting and customer engagement
• Participate in product and user experience testing (UAT) and contribute to product optimisation
• Assist in retention-focused initiatives to enhance the overall customer journey
• Support large-scale product issue resolutions and ensure sportsbook integrity

Qualifications

• Passion for sport – especially horse racing – is essential
• Minimum Matric; a relevant tertiary qualification is advantageous
• Proven knowledge of live trading, with a working understanding of pre-match trading principles
• Demonstrated ability to price and trade horse racing markets with accuracy and confidence
• High numerical aptitude with an affinity for data and patterns
• Comfortable working under pressure in a high-stakes, real-time environment
• Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Ability to multi-task and operate effectively in a fast-paced trading room environment
