Position

Senior Financial Manager- Impairments

Why join our team!

This is a senior financial management role that uniquely blends the rigour of financial reporting with the analytical depth normally found in quantitative environments. It offers full ownership of PPB’s IFRS 9 ECL impairment process, giving candidates the opportunity to influence financial outcomes, shape insights presented to leadership, and operate at the intersection of Finance, Risk and Modelling. For finance professionals, this is a chance to elevate your technical toolkit—applying advanced Excel modelling, working with large financial dataset and working close to the Credit Lab. For candidates with a quantitative background, this role offers a meaningful shift into Finance without losing the analytical complexity you enjoy: you will still solve data‑driven problems, test assumptions, challenge models, and turn quantitative insights into financial decisions that shape the business.

Beyond its technical depth, this role is ideal for someone who is proactive, self‑driven, and thrives in a dynamic financial environment where accountability is high and the pace is fast. The hiring manager emphasised the need for an individual who can independently manage heavy workloads, deliver under pressure, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across Finance, Credit Risk, Modelling and Business teams. It’s a perfect fit for financial analysts, senior finance professionals, and analytically strong quants who enjoy using numbers to tell a story, influence decisions, and operate in a role where financial leadership and quantitative insight come together. If you're looking for a career path that deepens your financial expertise while leveraging your modelling, data analysis, and problem‑solving strengths, this role offers the best of both worlds.

Job Purpose

To lead PPB’s end‑to‑end impairment reporting process with strong technical financial expertise and a high level of quantitative analytical capability. The Senior Financial Manager will work extensively with large datasets, build and interrogate models, and provide data‑driven insights that support impairment decisions, IFRS 9 processes, and strategic reporting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform complex quantitative analysis to identify impairment trends, scenario impacts and model sensitivities.
  • Conduct statistical and data driven investigations into ECL movements, staging changes and portfolio risk dynamics.

  • Develop and refine advanced Excel based models to support impairment calculations and forecasts.
  • Lead monthly/quarterly impairment reporting with full ownership of data, insights and governance.
  • Apply IFRS 9 standards to staging, expected credit loss calculations and scenario modelling.
  • Work with modelling teams to ensure proper methodology implementation and alignment.
  • Extract, manipulate and analyse large, complex datasets from finance/risk systems.
  • Build, maintain and enhance quantitative models to support scenario analysis, forecasting and stress testing.
  • Perform reconciliations, data validations and integrity checks to ensure ECL accuracy.

Governance & Controls

  • Maintain strong controls across impairment processes, ensuring audit readiness.
  • Produce documentation, rationale and evidence for model behaviour, assumptions and overlays.
  • Drive continuous improvement, automation and efficiency within impairment workflows.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate deeply with Modelling, Credit Risk, Finance Reporting, and Business segments.
  • Present quantitative insights in a clear, business-friendly manner to senior leadership.
  • Mentor junior resources on analysis, modelling and IFRS 9 topics.
