The role of the Human Resources Department is to support the University’s People Strategy which presents challenging people deliverables in relation to change and transformation projects and strategies. Transformational leadership is required from all at the University, and the role of HR is both to enable and facilitate processes for continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Manager: Human Resources, the successful candidate will provide a comprehensive, proactive, integrated and professional HR Generalist service to the specified Faculty or Unit – including the Executive Member, Dean of the Faculty, Heads of Departments and Employees – ensuring that the People Strategies are incorporated into their operating plans for optimal results.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Business Partnering/Generalist Consulting (partners with clients to ensure the implementation and delivery of key HR initiatives within the Faculty/Division, as the key interface between the HR Department and the Faculty or Division);
- People Planning (including recruitment and selection, induction/onboarding, talent management, exit management);
- Employee Relations by providing first line advice on disciplinary issues as well as incapacity issues;
- Policy and Procedures (advise on relevant policies and procedures);
- Organisational development and change management (consult and provide guidance to line management regarding proposals to redesign/restructure);
- Staff Development (facilitate, provide guidance and monitor the implementation of Performance Development System (PDS) within the Faculty/Unit and advise on relevant staff development initiatives);
- Rewards and Benefits (check, review, consult and guide on budgets and annual salary increase files and report on exceptions);
- HR Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (oversee and facilitate submission of annual, quarterly and/or monthly reports on the application of specific HR practices; and other legislative reporting);
- Governance/Risk and Compliance (participate in governance committees; implement HR processes and monitor and report on compliance);
- HR Administration (overseeing all HR administration functions relating to units/departments for which you are responsible).
Minimum Requirements
- Postgraduate Qualification (NQF level 8) in Human Resources or a related field;
- At least five (5) years’ generalist HR experience;
- Three (3) years is at the level of the HR Business Partner gained in a tertiary educational environment;
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation (BCEA, LRA, EE, Skills Development Act and Immigration Act) are essential.
