Position Purpose

Providing security support through monitoring, analysis, detection and mitigation of threats against the Transnet Engineering environment.

Identifies and remediates vulnerabilities that may cause inappropriate or accidental access, destruction, or disclosure of information and establishes security controls to eliminate or minimise exposure.

Information security analysts plan and carry out security measures to protect the organization’s computer networks, systems and operating technologies.

The responsibility of the information security specialist is continually expanding as the number of cyberattacks increases.

Position Outputs / Responsibilities

• Monitor the organization’s networks and OT network for security breaches and investigate and remediate violations.
• Analyze installation software and data encryption programs to protect sensitive information.
• Support the TE ICT infrastructure department and provide advice to provincial ICT centres.
• Conduct penetration testing to identify vulnerabilities before exploitation.
• Maintain in-depth technical knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Huawei Cloud Stack and other cloud platforms.
• Research the latest IT security trends and recommend security enhancements to management or senior ICT staff.
• Participate in technical disaster recovery plan testing.
• Assist in system security implementations, providing technical problem identification, isolation, and resolution for network (LAN/Wireless) physical ICT infrastructure.
• Work with Information Infrastructure/Security specialists to propose changes to architecture.
• Establish relationships with business representatives and key external information risk, security, governance, and compliance bodies to promote information security.
• Provide enterprise information management services with stakeholders.
• Monitor escalations and oversee incidents and requests to completion, providing expert problem management support and root cause analysis.
• Conduct studies to ensure compliance with the Transnet Information Security Framework and with laws, regulations, standards and industry norms.
• Develop and maintain project security risk templates to assess security resource needs for all new/existing projects.
• Facilitate rollout of project security templates and provide detailed security design for all projects based on risk assessment.
• Develop and update information security related policies and standards for new or complex technologies deployed within the enterprise.
• Provide input into the development and maintenance of strategies, policies and standards for Information Security, Business Continuance and IT Risk & Compliance.
• Maintain continuous understanding of the Transnet information security landscape and investigate solutions to mitigate real threats.
• Perform pre‑ and post‑implementation security reviews of key technology implementations.
• Investigate and drive use of innovative security technology that balances ease of access with security requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

• National Diploma in Information Technology / Computer Science / Information Systems required.
• Minimum experience of 5 years in ICT Infrastructure / ICT Security environment OR minimum 6 years.
• Valid CompTIA CYSA+ certification (CS0-003).
• Valid Azure Administrator Certification (AZ-104).
