About Xceptor
Data is at the heart of everything we do: Xceptor has been designed around data manipulation in its broadest sense. We source data from wherever it flows. We curate, normalise, validate, repair, and enrich that data so it reaches its destination in a reliable and consistent format. Data coming out of Xceptor is data our clients can trust.
Our Mission
To empower business users within financial institutions to build automated processes that deliver trusted data.
Our Values
- Client Centricity
- One Team
- Impactful
Role Overview
The Data Automation Tribe accelerates trusted, scalable automation for our customers—delivering high‑quality data processing, connectors, and intelligent workflows through empowered, self‑organising teams focused on continuous improvement and real customer outcomes. The tribe is transitioning to operate with an AI‑first PDLC. AI agents are a digital delivery partner across engineering and delivery management, accelerating how we design, build, test, document, plan, forecast, and report. Humans provide intent, constraints, verification, and accountability.
As a Software Engineer at Xceptor, you build and improve production‑grade software within established patterns and guardrails, delivering well‑scoped features and technical slices at a steady pace. You will use AI routinely to accelerate delivery while staying accountable for correctness, security, quality, and control.
You will work closely with senior engineers and the Principal Engineer to shape solutions, learn the platform standards, and increase your scope and independence over time. This role exists to help the tribe ship high‑quality capability quickly and consistently, while developing your skills in AI‑first engineering and production‑grade delivery in a regulated environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
Mission Delivery
- Deliver well‑scoped features and technical tasks end‑to‑end, with support from senior engineers when needed.
- Break work into small increments, keep PRs focused, and communicate progress and risks early.
- Clarify requirements and constraints before building; ask questions early to avoid rework.
- Build software that meets the tribe’s bar for correctness, maintainability, and operability.
AI‑First Delivery System (How we build)
- Use AI routinely to accelerate delivery (drafting code, tests, docs) and validate outputs rather than accepting them blindly.
- Work effectively within the tribe’s AI‑first PDLC, following established patterns, templates, and “golden prompts”.
- Apply verification discipline appropriate to scope: unit tests, integration tests where relevant, edge cases, and basic threat/abuse considerations.
- Contribute improvements to the delivery system: suggest refinements to templates, prompts, docs, and checks based on what slows delivery or causes defects.
- Participate actively in code review: request reviews early, respond quickly, and learn from feedback.
Technical Delivery
- Implement robust services and features in modern C# / .NET aligned to the tribe’s architecture and standards.
- Work effectively with SQL/No‑SQL: write safe queries, understand indexing basics, and use migrations correctly.
- Build APIs with clear contracts and consistent error handling, applying established resilience patterns.
- Write and maintain automated tests as part of delivery (unit as default; integration/contract when appropriate).
- Keep documentation current as part of delivery, ensuring it’s accurate and useful.
Quality, Security & Production Readiness (Speed with Control)
- Meet the tribe’s quality bar: follow testing standards, pass automated gates, and fix issues quickly when found.
- Build with observability defaults in mind: structured logs, meaningful events, and correlation/traceability where required.
- Understand and follow safe release practices: changes are reversible, diagnosable, and measurable in production.
- Follow regulated controls and security basics: least privilege, secure coding defaults, and audit‑friendly behaviours.
Collaboration & Culture
- Collaborate effectively with Product, UX, QA, and Engineering to deliver outcomes.
- Share progress proactively, ask for help when needed, and support teammates.
- Demonstrate continuous learning: adopt feedback quickly and apply it to future work.
- Help create a positive, high‑tempo team culture aligned to Xceptor values.
Key Competencies
Technical
- Solid experience building software in modern C# / .NET and contributing to production systems.
- Working knowledge of SQL/No‑SQL and data modelling; understand safe query patterns and performance basics.
- Able to reason about correctness, edge cases, and failure modes for the features you build.
- Comfortable working with CI/CD, code reviews, and automated testing practices.
- Can explain your approach and trade‑offs clearly to peers.
Who We're Looking For
- Experience as a software engineer contributing to production systems (2–5 years, depending on levelling).
- Experience with modern .NET / C# and SQL/No‑SQL in delivery teams using code reviews, testing, and CI/CD.
- Evidence of strong engineering fundamentals and ability to learn quickly in a fast‑moving environment.
- Strong academic background, including a degree in a STEM subject discipline, or equivalent experience.
Diversity & Inclusion
We believe great ideas come from everywhere — and that the best teams are made up of people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. At Xceptor, we’re committed to building a workplace where everyone feels welcome, valued, and empowered to be themselves. We celebrate diversity and are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for all employees—regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, or background.
Hybrid Work
We love the buzz of the office and the flexibility of home—so at Xceptor, you get the best of both. Our people spend 2–3 days per week in the office collaborating, brainstorming, and connecting in person. The rest is up to you. It’s all about great teamwork, balanced with the freedom to work your way.
Please Note
- Xceptor works with clients in financial services and our offers of employment are subject to the satisfactory completion of background checks, which includes criminal record checks, and credit reference checks.
- If you have any employment gaps exceeding three months within the last six years, we will request additional information and evidence to clarify those periods.
