Job Description

Truco Rubber is an industrial rubber solutions specialist with over 130 years of heritage. We are the largest hose manufacturer in South Africa, operating with ISO-9001 accredited facilities. We supply end-to-end services—from product design and manufacturing to installation and commissioning—for fluid and material handling applications across mining, industrial, marine, and infrastructure sectors.

Purpose

To support the product development & quality assurance teams in designing, testing, and improving Truco’s rubber hose, conveyor belts, rubber sheeting/lining, bellows, and hose fittings.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and execution of tests for rubber products: hoses, sheeting, bellows, etc.
• Help analyse product failures / defects and recommend improvements in design or materials.
• Work with senior engineers to ensure all products meet ISO-9001 quality standards.
• Participate in material selection (natural, synthetic rubbers, specialized compounds) for specific applications.
• Support the development of prototypes for new hose/lining/conveyor belt designs.
• Perform inspections of incoming raw materials and finished products.
• Document test results, prepare reports, and assist with maintaining test equipment / lab facilities.
• Liaise with the manufacturing team to ensure design specifications are met in production (tolerances, durability, performance).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or pursuing) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Rubber Technology, Polymer Science or similar.
• Some experience (academic projects / internships) in materials testing, product design or quality assurance.
• Knowledge of rubber/hose product properties (e.g. abrasion, temperature resistance, chemical resistance etc ).
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail.
• Able to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Basic knowledge of test standards, lab instrumentation beneficial.
  
• Hands-on experience in industrial rubber design, production, and quality assurance.
• Exposure to a wide variety of product lines (hoses, sheeting, linings, bellows, conveyor belts, fittings) and industrial applications.
