Senior Accountant

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join the Port Elizabeth firm.

Responsibilities

1. Supervise and initiate the processing of client information receipts, sales invoices, purchase invoices.
2. Perform bank reconciliations.
3. Process and reconcile Petty Cash and cash control accounts.
4. Maintain a fixed asset register.
5. Record general journals – e.g., depreciation, provisions, interest, salaries, stock, etc.
6. Process journal entries e.g., new instalment sale agreements, interest on borrowings, provisions, accruals of income and expenses, bad debts, etc.
7. Distinguish between finance and operating leases.
8. Handle foreign exchange transactions.
9. Reconcile debtors and creditors statements.
10. Ensure correct accounting treatment on disposal of assets (property, plant & equipment) and investments, including the calculation of taxation on capital gains/losses.
11. Analyse the resulting trial balance for mistakes/deviations and discuss the results with the client.
12. Conduct an analytical review of AFS – GP%, Inventory days, Creditors days, Debtors days.
13. Record books from insufficient records.
14. Produce a draft set of financials according to generally accepted accounting practice and maintain a working paper file according to the standards per the training file for sole proprietors, close corporations, trusts, partnerships, small business corporations, farmers, and Body Corporates.

Requirements

1. Grade 12 with Accounting.
2. BCom Degree or equivalent.
3. Completed Articles or 6 years of experience in an Accounting Firm.
4. Proficient in MS Office.
5. Pastel, Xero, and Caseware experience preferred.
