  • Contribute to the organizational SHE strategy by understanding key strategic drivers and direction and providing informed input during the annual strategic planning process.
  • Develop the departmental SHE strategy by aligning with the overarching business strategy, formulating strategic objectives, and presenting the plan for approval on an annual basis.
  • Contribute and adhere to Employment Equity requirements
  • Formulate and manage departmental operational plan by translating strategy into actionable initiatives, including projects and performance metrics, and submitting for approval annually or as required.
  • Oversee and report on departmental performance by tracking progress against targets, identifying achievements and areas of concern, and preparing reports on a quarterly basis or as needed.
  • Manage operational performance by monitoring key performance indicators, identifying deviations, and implementing corrective actions on a monthly basis or as required.
  • Ensure Enaex Africa’s compliance with local and corporate regulations by maintaining up-to-date knowledge, implementing necessary controls, monitoring adherence, and addressing non-compliance monthly or as needed, while promoting ethical conduct and integrity.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of departmental business processes by guiding process mapping, assessing efficiency and relevance, and enforcing corrective measures where necessary.
  • Develop departmental policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements, good practices, and internal standards, submitting them for approval as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures by monitoring compliance, identifying gaps, and executing corrective measures where required.
  • Oversee the utilisation and enhancement of departmental systems and software by evaluating usage patterns, identifying areas for optimization, and initiating improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Manage departmental compliance with regulatory requirements by staying informed of statutory changes and updating policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Develop regional SHEQ operational plans by translating the organisation’s SHEQ strategy into actionable regional initiatives,
  • Reviewing alignment with current SHEQ priorities, and distributing the plans for review and sign-off within required deadlines.
  • Oversee the implementation of area-specific SHEQ improvement plans by engaging with relevant stakeholders, identifying site-specific SHEQ priorities, defining actionable interventions, and submitting the plans for approval and execution by the agreed deadlines.
  • Mitigate SHEQ risks by overseeing the implementation and monitoring of risk control measures, ensuring accurate incident capture in the incident management system, addressing non-compliance, and reporting on overall risk management performance by specified deadlines.
  • Manage the review of SHEQ performance against defined operational plans and targets by coordinating SHEQ audits and inspections, identifying risks and non-conformance issues, ensuring feedback is actioned, and working with operations to implement corrective measures to meet SHE objectives.
  • Represent the SHEQ function effectively in SHEQ forums and meetings by reviewing discussion outcomes, identifying trends and key insights, formulating recommendations, and engaging stakeholders to drive the implementation of risk-reduction and performance-improvement initiatives.
  • Drive the implementation of high-quality SHEQ practices by overseeing the review and improvement of existing SHEQ systems, processes, and policies, offering technical support and guidance, and ensuring the consistent delivery of quality SHEQ performance across all operational areas.
  • Develop departmental budgets by analyzing operational needs, preparing detailed financial plans, and submitting budgets for approval annually and as required.
  • Manage departmental expenditure by tracking spending against budget allocations, approving costs, identifying under- or over-expenditure, and implementing corrective measures monthly and as needed
  • Safeguard departmental information by managing security and disaster recovery protocols, assessing existing controls, identifying vulnerabilities, and deploying mitigation strategies as required.
  • Oversee departmental risk management by developing and maintaining a robust risk management framework, reviewing risk strategies, and driving the implementation of improvements quarterly and as necessary.
  • Manage SHE initiatives by ensuring effective training programs are delivered, monitoring completion, and addressing gaps or non-compliance identified during training.
  • Manage SHE compliance by setting clear standards, ensuring timely completion of all monitoring activities, and resolving any issues within specified deadlines.
  • Maintain SHE compliance through regular reviews of SHE practices, identifying instances of non-compliance, and implementing corrective actions within required timeframes.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships by engaging with key internal and external stakeholders, providing input and receiving feedback, and collaborating to ensure alignment and responsiveness.
  • Engage with industry stakeholders by identifying relevant topics of impact, representing the organization in industry forums, contributing to initiatives, and addressing challenges as needed.
  • Manage service providers by defining service level agreements (SLAs), negotiating terms, monitoring performance, and addressing delivery gaps with corrective actions on a monthly or as-needed basis.
  • Recruit employees in line with the EE targets by conducting interviews, evaluating candidate performance, and providing timely feedback as needed.
  • Manage resourcing by assessing workload demands and securing appropriate staffing to support operational output.
  • Oversee employee performance by setting clear expectations, monitoring delivery, giving regular feedback, addressing performance issues, and implementing corrective actions monthly or as required.
  • Support employee development by identifying development needs in line with departmental training needs analysis, facilitating skills enhancement, mentoring team members, and tracking improvement on a monthly basis or as necessary.
  • Contribute to the sustainability strategy of the department
  • Ensure that the operations are aligned with sustainability principles, minimising environmental impact.

Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent
  • BSc / B Eng / B Tech in Safety, Environmental or similar
  • Post Graduate Qualification in Management or Management Development Programme (MDP)
  • Risk Management certificate
  • 7+ years SHE Planning and Implementation experience within Mining environment.
  • 4 years’ experience as a Chief Safety Officer or Safety Superintendent
  • 5+ year’s people management
