Safety, Health & Environmental Officer (Project Environment) - Cape Town (Newlands)

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety, Health & Environmental Officer to support project teams in maintaining a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible work environment within an industrial setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, promoting safe work practices, and supporting project execution across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all applicable Occupational Health & Safety legislation and site safety standards
• Support the implementation and maintenance of Safety, Health & Environmental systems and procedures
• Maintain a safe working environment across project sites
• Identify workplace hazards and ensure risks are communicated effectively to employees and contractors
• Capture and manage contractor man-hours and compile required safety reports
• Conduct incident investigations with line management, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions
• Maintain project safety boards and relevant site documentation
• Support the safe execution of capital projects and safe work practices on site
• Assist with environmental compliance initiatives and monitoring programmes
• Review and audit contractor risk assessments and method statements before permits to work are issued
• Facilitate contractor safety meetings and daily site safety briefings
• Work overtime and weekends when required to support project activities

Minimum Requirements

• National Diploma in Safety Management or relevant qualification (SAMTRAC advantageous)
• Sound knowledge of industrial safety regulations and compliance requirements
• Ability to identify operational and safety non-conformances
• 2-3 years' experience in a Safety Officer or similar role
• Experience within an industrial, manufacturing, or FMCG environment
• Strong presentation, reporting, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to coach, guide, and train teams on safety standards and practices
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage across all levels of the organisation
