Core Network Product Technical Engineer (EPC/5GC)

Location: Johannesburg, South Africa

Type: Contract (6-Month Rolling)

Position Summary

Tangent International is seeking an experienced Core Network Product Technical Engineer to support the delivery, maintenance, and optimization of EPC and 5G Core networks. This role is critical in ensuring network stability, efficient issue resolution, and successful rollout and expansion of 5G services.

Responsibilities

• Perform core network maintenance and proactively troubleshoot EPC and 5GC issues.
• Support 5G network commissioning, integration, and commercial rollout activities.
• Execute network expansion, upgrades, and optimization tasks.
• Analyze signaling flows and resolve complex technical issues in core networks.
• Engage with clients to handle service requests, complaints, and technical queries.
• Ensure network performance, stability, and service continuity in live environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project delivery and operations.
• Maintain accurate documentation for incidents, configurations, and changes.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Strong hands‑on experience with EPC and/or 5G Core (5GC) network technologies.
• In-depth understanding of core network service flows and signaling protocols.
• Proven experience in EPC/5GC project delivery, commercial launch, and operations.
• Solid troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills in telecom core environments.
• Experience in network operations and maintenance (O&M).
• Strong communication skills with ability to engage effectively with clients.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written).
• Must be currently based in South Africa.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience working with major telecom vendors (Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia).
• Knowledge of virtualization and NFV environments.
• Familiarity with 5G standalone (SA) architecture.
• Exposure to automation and scripting in network operations.
• Relevant telecom certifications (e.g., HCIP/HCIE, CCNP/CCIE).
