Requirements:

• This role requires full-time office presence in Cape Town.
• At least 12-15 years of professional experience in software development, with a minimum of 7 years in a senior leadership or executive role.
• Experience in defining and driving engineering strategy, vision, and culture at an organizational level.
• Hands-on experience with multiple backend programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, or Go, and/or modern front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex, large-scale software systems.
• Excellent communication skills with a strong command of English, both written and verbal.

Skills:

• Exceptional leadership and executive management skills, with a proven ability to inspire and motivate engineering teams.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
• Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Strong expertise in CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and modern infrastructure management.
• Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects and deliver results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Strong business acumen and understanding of how engineering impacts overall business goals.

Nice to have:

• Experience in presenting technical and business insights to C-level executives and board members.
• Passion for technical problem-solving through strategy.
• Proven ability to foster effective collaboration across all engineering departments, including platform and data teams, as well as with cross-functional teams such as product management, design, marketing, and other business units.
• In-depth knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Active involvement in the tech community through speaking at conferences, contributing to open source projects, or publishing influential technical articles.
