Design Engineering Solutions for Complex Process Plants

Our client is a leading multi-disciplinary engineering company delivering innovative engineering solutions to clients across South Africa and internationally.
Their projects span the mining, metals, ferroalloy, steel, PGM, energy, nuclear, industrial and process sectors, with specialist expertise in process plant equipment, off-gas treatment, dust control, waste energy recovery and sustainable engineering solutions.
They are looking for a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer with at least 3 years' experience to join their Centurion-based engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who wants to develop strong technical expertise in piping systems, pressure vessels, storage vessels and process plant equipment, while gaining exposure to the complete engineering project lifecycle.

🔧 What You Will Be Doing

• Design mechanical equipment for process plants, including piping systems, pressure vessels and storage vessels
• Develop and review 3D models and process plant layouts
• Interpret P&IDs and translate process requirements into mechanical designs
• Participate across the full project lifecycle – from concept and detailed design through fabrication, installation and commissioning
• Prepare piping, valve and mechanical equipment specifications
• Review pressure equipment and piping fabrication packs
• Provide mechanical engineering input into process equipment datasheets
• Review vendor equipment drawings, datasheets and technical submissions
• Perform engineering calculations and solve design challenges using modern analysis software
• Work closely with process, piping, structural, electrical and other engineering disciplines
• Apply relevant international and South African pressure equipment and piping design codes
• Work alongside experienced Professional Engineers while developing towards greater technical responsibility

🎓 What We Are Looking For

• BEng/BSc Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 3 years' mechanical design experience
• Experience within process plants, piping, pressure equipment or related industrial environments
• Proficiency in 3D engineering/design software such as Autodesk Inventor and/or Plant 3D
• Sound understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering calculations
• Knowledge of relevant pressure equipment and piping codes, including ASME BPVC, ASME B31.1, SANS 347, EN 13480 and EN 13445
• Exposure to CAESAR II, CAEPIPE and/or PV Elite would be advantageous
• ECSA Professional Engineer registration or progress towards registration would be advantageous
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
