Senior Electrical and Automation Design Engineer

RPO Recruitments client a leading engineering firm in Cape Town is seeking a Senior Electrical and Automation Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team. This opportunity is ideal for a technically driven engineer who enjoys taking full ownership of projects from initial design and development through to installation commissioning and ongoing optimisation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design electrical control systems and develop detailed electrical schematics.
• Develop PLC SCADA and HMI software solutions for industrial automation projects.
• Design control panels generate bills of materials (BOMs) and specify electrical components.
• Support procurement activities by selecting appropriate electrical equipment and instrumentation.
• Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT) workshop testing and system verification.
• Provide on-site installation support commissioning troubleshooting and fault finding.
• Develop implement and maintain company electrical engineering standards and best practices.
• Deliver projects from concept through detailed design testing commissioning and handover.

Requirements:

• BEng BTech or National Diploma in Electrical Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years experience in industrial automation (8 years preferred).
• Strong background in electrical design and industrial control systems.
• Proven experience with PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal and/or Rockwell Studio 5000).
• Experience developing SCADA and HMI applications.
• Proficiency in electrical design software with EPLAN being highly advantageous.
• Solid understanding of industrial instrumentation including 420 mA RTDs Modbus Profinet Ethernet/IP and similar communication protocols.
• Experience with motor control centres (MCCs) variable speed drives (VSDs) industrial control panels and motor control systems.
• Willingness to travel for site installations and commissioning as required.
