Proposal Engineer (Solar & Renewable Energy)

Location: Centurion Gauteng
An established engineering company is seeking a skilled Proposal Engineer with experience in the solar and renewable energy sector to join its team in Centurion. This role is ideal for a technically strong Electrical Engineer who enjoys combining engineering expertise with commercial acumen to develop competitive and technically compliant proposals for renewable energy projects.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the preparation of tender submissions technical proposals cost estimations and client solutions for utility-scale commercial and industrial solar projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare high-quality technical and commercial proposals for solar PV and renewable energy projects.
• Analyze client requirements tender documentation and project specifications.
• Develop preliminary system designs and engineering concepts.
• Perform energy yield assessments and system sizing calculations.
• Prepare bills of quantities scope of work documents and cost estimates.
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and technical information.
• Evaluate project risks and commercial considerations during the proposal stage.
• Support business development activities through technical presentations and client engagement.
• Collaborate with engineering project management procurement and commercial teams.
• Ensure proposal submissions meet client requirements industry standards and company objectives.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng or BTech Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 3 years post-graduate experience within the solar or renewable energy industry.
• Previous experience preparing proposals tenders bids or cost estimates for solar projects.
• Strong understanding of Solar PV systems and associated electrical infrastructure.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications drawings and tender documents.
• Excellent analytical commercial and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with utility-scale commercial or industrial solar PV projects.
• Familiarity with PVsyst Helioscope AutoCAD or similar design software.
• Knowledge of EPC contracting environments.
• Exposure to battery energy storage systems (BESS).
• Understanding of grid-tied and hybrid renewable energy solutions.
