Company and Job Description
Our client is a well-established investment banking and corporate finance advisory firm with a strong presence across the African market. They are seeking an M&A Associate to join their Johannesburg team focusing on Metals & Mining transactions with additional exposure to the energy sector.
The role offers involvement in both buy-side and sell-side M&A mandates as well as private capital raising transactions across the continent. The successful candidate will be responsible for transaction execution client relationship management business development and supporting deals from origination through to completion. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven finance professional looking to grow within a fast-paced deal-focused environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify originate and develop new client relationships.
• Prepare pitch presentations case studies and business development materials.
• Screen prospective clients and evaluate new transaction opportunities.
• Negotiate and secure advisory mandates.
• Conduct financial analysis valuations and transaction structuring.
• Prepare information memoranda teasers and transaction marketing documentation.
• Lead transaction negotiations and coordinate with legal advisors throughout execution.
• Manage transactions from origination through to successful completion.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients investors and industry stakeholders.
• Collaborate with colleagues across regional offices and cross-border teams.
• Contribute to business development and sector-focused marketing initiatives.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.
• Support broader strategic initiatives and contribute to the continued growth of the business.

Job Experience and Skills Required:

• Minimum 3 years experience in Mergers & Acquisitions.
• Significant exposure to the Metals & Mining sector.
• Strong financial modelling valuation and transaction structuring capabilities.
• Proven ability to originate business and secure new mandates.
• Demonstrated success in building and managing relationships with corporate clients investors and stakeholders.
• Strong negotiation and transaction execution experience.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Leadership ability with experience mentoring junior professionals.
• Previous experience within an investment bank is essential.
• Additional experience in private equity transaction advisory valuations commercial banking or corporate finance will be advantageous.
