Our client is seeking a commercially astute Credit Investment Portfolio Analyst / Manager to play a pivotal role in the assessment execution and ongoing management of investment opportunities across credit and distressed debt portfolios.

This position is suited to a highly analytical investment professional with strong financial modelling valuation and credit analysis capabilities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for transforming complex financial data into strategic investment insights that support capital allocation decisions and portfolio optimisation.
Working closely with investment legal finance and operational stakeholders you will contribute across the full investment lifecycle from opportunity evaluation and due diligence through to transaction execution portfolio monitoring and performance enhancement.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate credit portfolios distressed debt opportunities and alternative investment opportunities to support informed investment decision-making.
• Develop and maintain complex financial models including valuation scenario sensitivity and stress-testing analyses.
• Support transaction execution activities including due diligence financial assessments deal structuring and investment implementation.
• Prepare investment memoranda committee papers valuation reports and executive presentations for senior stakeholders.
• Assess credit quality non-performing loan (NPL) exposures portfolio performance metrics and risk-adjusted return opportunities.
• Conduct in-depth corporate finance and investment analyses to quantify upside potential downside risk and expected returns.
• Assist with ongoing portfolio management initiatives providing actionable recommendations to improve investment outcomes.
• Partner with cross-functional teams throughout the investment lifecycle to ensure efficient execution and monitoring of investments.
• Serve as a key deputy to the Client Solutions Executive acting as a trusted second-in-command within the investment team.

Job Experience and Skills Required:
Qualifications

• CA(SA) CFA or BCom Honours in Accounting Finance Investments Economics Actuarial Science or a related discipline.

Experience

• 35 years of relevant experience within one or more of the following environments:
  • Investment analysis
  • Credit investments
  • Corporate finance
  • Investment banking
  • Financial advisory
  • Debt portfolio acquisitions
  • Distressed credit or NPL markets (advantageous)

Technical Skills

• Advanced financial modelling and valuation expertise.
• Strong capabilities in:
  • Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) valuations
  • Scenario modelling
  • Sensitivity analysis
  • Stress testing
  • Investment appraisal and financial analysis
• Experience preparing investment committee submissions and presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
• Exposure to SQL and Power BI would be advantageous.

• Ability to critically assess and defend valuation assumptions and investment opinions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills including interaction with investment committees and senior executives.

• Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver under demanding deadlines.
• Academic excellence and a track record of achievement will be highly regarded.

• Demonstrated experience supporting investment transactions due diligence processes or deal execution activities.
• Strong background in valuation methodologies and financial modelling.
• Ability to analyse complex financial information and generate meaningful investment insights.
• Confidence interacting with senior decision-makers and presenting investment recommendations.
• Commercially minded with sound judgement and a strong understanding of risk and return dynamics.
