CMDB Manager (Configuration Management Database)

A multinational manufacturing holding company that produces specialty coatings, sealants, and building materials for both industrial and consumer markets is seeking a CMDB Manager who will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) within the ServiceNow platform - Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban-based

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and coach a team of asset technicians, managing performance reviews and talent development.
• CMDB Governance: Lead governance forums and technical workshops to drive CMDB adoption, maturity, and alignment with ITIL frameworks.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with ITSM, ITOM, and ServiceNow platform teams to align CMDB data with broader service management and change management processes.
• Health & Lifecycle Management: Monitor and maintain CMDB health metrics, resolve data discrepancies, and manage CI lifecycle processes.
• Discovery & Integrations: Oversee discovery, reconciliation, and integration activities (including SCCM, Intune, SolarWinds, and other monitoring platforms) to ensure accurate CI population.
• Service Mapping: Drive discovery and service mapping initiatives to align infrastructure with business services.
• Audits & Compliance: Conduct regular audits, data certification activities, and gap analyses to identify and remediate data quality root causes.
• Reporting: Design and maintain dashboards to track CMDB compliance, operational health, and impact.
• Innovation: Stay current with ServiceNow releases and champion automation to enhance CMDB efficiency.

Minimum Requirements

• Experience: 7+ years of experience directly managing CMDB in ServiceNow within large, complex environments.
• Technical Expertise: Strong working knowledge of ServiceNow modules (ITSM, ITOM, and ITAM), including hardware/software lifecycle management, Discovery, and Service Mapping.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Certifications:
  • ITIL v4 Foundations (required).
  • ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) – CMDB or Discovery (required).
  • Deep understanding of the Common Service Data Model (CSDM) framework (highly desirable).
• Integrations & Infrastructure: Hands‑on integration experience with SCCM, Intune, SolarWinds, or similar monitoring tools; solid understanding of infrastructure architecture, project management, and roadmapping.
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
