Head of Collections Collections Manager

A growing banking and payments environment is seeking to appoint an experienced Collections Manager to lead and optimise its collections capability across multiple payment channels.

This is a unique opportunity for a collections and payments specialist to join an entrepreneurial technology-driven organisation where you will take ownership of both the operational management of collections and the ongoing evolution of the collections platform. Working closely with Product Technology Operations and Business teams you will play a pivotal role in the design build implementation rollout maintenance and continuous enhancement of the organisations collections systems while ensuring operational excellence across all collections activities.

The successful candidate will act as the subject matter expert responsible for delivering a compliant efficient and customer-centric collections function that supports the organisations growth strategy.

The Collections Manager will be responsible for:

• Managing the organisations collections capability across multiple payment channels.
• Leading authenticated collections (DebiCheck) and debit order processes end-to-end.
• Managing both debtor bank and creditor bank collection operations.
• Partnering closely with Technology Product and Operations teams throughout the design build implementation rollout and ongoing enhancement of the collections platform.
• Defining business requirements and ensuring technology solutions meet operational and regulatory requirements.
• Driving automation operational efficiency and continuous process improvement.
• Managing stakeholder relationships across Business Operations Technology and external service providers.
• Ensuring compliance with PASA Authenticated Collections rules SARB regulations and industry best practice.
• Identifying opportunities to optimise collection success rates customer experience and operational performance.

This role requires strong technical and operational knowledge of the South African collections and payments landscape including:

• TT1 / TT2 / TT3 transaction types
• EFT Debit Orders

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Finance Banking Commerce Information Systems or a related field.
• Postgraduate qualification advantageous.
• PASA Banking or Payments certifications advantageous.
• Project Management certification advantageous.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years experience within South African banking fintech or payments environments.
• Proven experience managing collections operations within a banking or payments environment.
• Strong experience managing DebiCheck and authenticated collections.
• Experience partnering with technology teams on the build implementation rollout and enhancement of payment or collections systems.
• Strong understanding of:
  • Debtor Bank and Creditor Bank operations
  • TT1 / TT2 / TT3 transaction types
  • Mandate lifecycle management
  • EFT debit order environments
  • ACH integrations
  • BankServAfrica payment processes
• Experience driving process optimisation and operational efficiency initiatives.
