General Reinsurance, Cape Town Branch (a subsidary of General ReinsuranceAG) is offering an opportunity for Senior Pricing & Product Actuary in ourLife Australia, UK, SA, Canada division.

Key Responsibilities

This is achallenging and rewarding role involving pricing and product work acrossmultiple life and health insurance product lines for Gen Re internally as wellas our diverse client base. The role works closely with our business developmentand client teams, and includes technical mentoring and review of our actuarial team.

• Preparing quotations for new business and reviews of existing business for both Group and Individual Life business across multiple product lines
• Analysis and assessment of life and health reinsurance portfolios for the purposes of risk management, experience studies, planning and quotation
• Leading product development and supporting clients with new products and revisions to existing products
• Contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a Product Development Framework, supporting the structured delivery of client-driven product development and product enhancement initiatives across the business
• Partnering with our Business Development and client teams to deliver pricing, product and other technical solutions, including direct engagements with clients.
• Monitoring and provision of management information statistics
• Maintaining the Company's pricing guidelines, pricing tools and treaty wording standards
• Undertaking focused research, which will generate competitive advantage through superior understanding of risk
• Creating an image of the company as a thought leader through client interactions, industry involvement, publications, and presentations
• Lead client teams and build strong client relationships in support of Gen Re's client strategy, ensuring coordinated service delivery, identifying growth opportunities, and contributing to the development of innovative solutions that address client needs and enhance long-term partnerships
• Providing technical mentoring and review to junior members of the actuarial team.

Qualifications & Experience

• Qualified actuary at a senior level, with relevant hands-on experience valued above years post-qualification
• Hands‑on experience in life and health pricing, product and technical work. Reinsurance or consulting experience is advantageous
• The ability to work in a methodical manner with good numerical and analytical skills
• Ability to handle and synthesize large volumes of information
• Able to multi‑task and work under pressure in meeting internal and external deadlines
• Strong problem‑solving skills, particularly when in new situations or dealing with clients
• The ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of people, both internally and externally
• Strong ownership and delivery focus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Consistent pursuit of excellence in execution and delivery
• Excellent IT skills (MS Office, SQL Server, R, Working with large datasets)
• An interest in the potential of AI and generative AI, and a willingness to play, learn and help implement practical efficiencies
• Ability to work with minimum supervision, and to guide and review the work of others
• Critical thinking and curiosity
• Commercial awareness
