Catering Manager

A well-established South African contract catering company providing professional, large-scale food service management across the corporate, healthcare, education and residential care sectors.

The Catering Manager will take operational, culinary, and financial responsibility for a boutique catering unit within a retirement village in Howick. Catering for approximately 6070 residents daily, this hands-on role focuses on delivering wholesome, high-quality meals, managing kitchen staff, maintaining strict food safety standards, and building warm relationships with residents and facility management.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily kitchen operations, meal preparation, portion control, and dining service for approximately 6070 pax per day.
• Manage food costings, stock control, ordering, menu planning, and administrative paperwork.
• Lead, schedule, train, and mentor a small kitchen and service team.
• Maintain strict hygiene, health, and safety standards in line with HACCP regulations.
• Plan balanced, nutritious menus tailored to the dietary requirements of senior residents.
• Working hours: 07h00 to 16h00 (5 days per week with 2 days off), with occasional extra hours required for special functions or events.
• Liaise directly with facility management and residents to ensure high satisfaction levels.

Requirements

• Matric.
• A qualification in Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, or Food Service Management is advantageous.
• Experience as a Catering Manager, F&B Manager, Executive Chef, or Commis Chef.
• Solid practical knowledge of kitchen administrative paperwork, including food costings and stock control.
• Practical understanding of HACCP and occupational health and safety standards.
• Valid drivers licence and own vehicle.

Salary
R18 000 - R20 000 CTC per month
