Job Description
Overview: The child in question is a sweet, inquisitiveand energetic little girl. We are seeking somebody to spend time with her inthe mornings before school and in the afternoons, as well as accompany her toher extra-curricular activities. The family is seeking full time support asboth parents are working professionals.
Main Purpose of the job: In this role, you will have the opportunityto make a significant impact on this little girl’s development. Yourresponsibilities will include assisting with planning activities with her,building a relationship based on acceptance and trust, and getting to know herspecial interests and learning how to engage with her. Collaboration with herteachers and multidisciplinary team is necessary, to implement individualizedstrategies for her that are supportive of her own individual needs. A suitablecandidate would be interested in growing their understanding of herneurodevelopmental profile and related differences and challenges. A specialinterest and passion in supporting neurodivergent individuals is of utmostimportance.
Job Objectives
- To collaborate with a team to support thechild’s needs and to carry over skills learnt in therapies.
- To step in when the parents need extra support
- To accompany the child to extra-muralactivities.
- To accompany the family on occasional outingsand or holidays.
- To provide support and companionship to thechild to enrich her days
- To understand, accommodate and alleviate her sensorydifficulties.
Requirements
- Experienceworking with children, particularly those that are neurodivergent.
- Experiencein neurodivergence and autism spectrum disorder are advantageous
- Anunderstanding of the PDA profile of Autism would be ideal
- Fluentin English
- Possessionof a valid driver's license and reliable car (a vehicle will be provided foruse during work hours).
- Agentle and kind approach to working with children, whilst remaining firm inboundaries is essential.
- Knowledgeof childhood development would be advantageous
- Knowledgeof working from a child-led approach is essential
- A vailabilityMonday to Friday, from approximately 6h00 to 18h00, as well as some Saturdaysfrom 08h00 to 14h00, and the occasional public holiday.
- Abilityto commit to the role long term.
There willbe an opportunity to be trained by the NDC Facilitation Academy when the rolecommences, and support sessions are provided for one month thereafter, workingin collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team based at theNeurodiversity Centre.
