Creative Technologist (Graphic Design + Video)

We're pioneering what online education looks like in the age of AI. Now we want someone to pioneer what AI-first creative execution looks like too. This is that role — and there is no playbook for it yet.

NGL — Creative Technologist

Location: Cape Town (hybrid) · Reports to: Growth & AI Enablement Director · Type: Full-time

We're pioneering what online education looks like in the age of AI. Now we want someone to pioneer what AI-first creative execution looks like too.

This is that role — and there is no playbook for it yet.

About NGL

NGL builds AI-powered executive education courses with the world's leading universities. Our AI-guided courses have achieved NPS scores of 85+. We're a team of 15 doing what would traditionally require a much larger organisation.

Founded by Sam Paddock, co-founder of GetSmarter (acquired by 2U/NASDAQ for $103M). Our thesis: great people + generative AI = outsized results. That applies to our product and how we work.

The Role

The Creative Technologist sits at the intersection of creativity, design, production, and technology. This is a new role; we're not replacing anyone, and we don't have a playbook for it. What we have is a product people genuinely love, partnerships with top brands, and a growing library of content, campaigns, and digital surfaces that need to look as good as what we're teaching.

You'll own the visual and creative standard across everything NGL produces: ads, landing pages, email campaigns, the website, course assets, sales collateral, and the tools we use internally. You'll also build — lightweight internal tools, HubSpot page implementations, prototypes. You won't just make things look better. You'll build the workflows and systems that make the whole team more creative.

You'll work directly with our Growth & AI Enablement Director. Where specialist execution is needed, you'll brief and direct outsourced graphic designers and videographers. But design decisions don't get outsourced; they stay with you.

Who This Person Is

You make things. Actually make them.

Not "overseeing" or "directing". You sit down and produce excellent graphic design and UX/UI work yourself. You have taste and the craft to back it up. Your portfolio shows both. The path you took to get here — agency, in-house, freelance, building your own products — matters less than the evidence that you can execute at a high standard without needing someone else to make the design decisions.

You've spent years doing creative work.

You understand production processes from the inside. You know what a good brief looks like, what happens when you don't have one, and how to work across creative, production, and technical teams without losing the thread. You've operated in environments where quality mattered and speed was also required — and you've figured out how to hold both.

You use AI as a creative instrument, not a shortcut.

Not "curious about AI" — you actually use it. To generate and iterate visual concepts. To build things in tools like Lovable, Bolt, or v0. To train models on brand guidelines and create prompt systems that produce consistent, on-brand outputs. To compress a production pipeline that used to take days into hours. If you're not already doing this, this isn't the role.

You're technically fearless.

You don't wait for a developer when a no-code tool or an AI-generated HTML page can get it done. You're comfortable taking code — whether you wrote it, Claude wrote it, or it came from somewhere else — and implementing it in HubSpot without breaking things. You build prototypes. You ship. You document what you build so other people can use it.

You spot gaps and act on them without being asked. You don't need a fully scoped brief to start. You get genuine satisfaction from seeing something you built become something other people use daily. You've started something from scratch before — a project, a function, a workflow — and you know what that actually takes.

You think in systems, not just assets.

A one-off ad is an output. A workflow that produces a full launch asset suite in 48 hours is a system. You want to build the system. You think about how to enable the people around you to produce better creative work, not just how to produce good work yourself.

And Tactically

  • You own and maintain the NGL website, keeping it current, improving the UX, and making sure it reflects the quality of what we teach
  • You take HTML from AI tools and implement it cleanly in HubSpot — landing pages, email templates, campaign assets
  • You build lightweight internal tools and prototypes in platforms like Lovable, Webflow, or Bolt
  • You produce ad creative for Meta and LinkedIn — statics, short-form video — and iterate fast
  • You design course assets, sales decks, partner materials, and anything else that carries the NGL or partner name
  • Over time, you'll develop a video production capability — turning session recordings into promotional content. If you already have this skill, great. If not, AI tools like Descript and Runway are your bridge, and we'll supplement with a freelance editor in the interim
  • You train AI tools on NGL's brand guidelines and build prompt systems the whole team can use
  • You brief and review outsourced graphic designers when you need additional execution capacity — but the creative standard is yours to hold

A Note on Fit

In the interest of honesty, this probably isn't right if:

  • Your strength is creative direction and your instinct is to hand the execution to someone else. We need someone who makes things, not manages the making of things.
  • You've never shipped anything in a no-code or low-code environment. The build dimension of this role is real, not aspirational.
  • You're "curious about AI" but haven't built it into how you actually work. This isn't negotiable.
  • You work best inside a well-defined creative brief. A lot of what you'll be doing here is figuring out what the brief should be.
  • You want to specialise. This role requires range — graphic design, UX/UI, web, tools, AI — and someone who finds that breadth draining rather than energising won't thrive here.

The Opportunity

NGL is at the point where the quality of what we produce is either going to become a competitive advantage or a liability. The right person in this role changes that trajectory; not by working harder, but by building the creative systems and standards that scale with us.

You'll work directly with the founding team, set the visual standard for a company partnered with top tier universities, and do it at an organisation that is genuinely proving a new model for professional education.
